Walkthrough of the private pilot checkride?

Featured Replies

Hi all,I'm stuck on the second checkride in the Learning Center, for the private pilot. I have no trouble performing the takeoff, but I always flunk the first turn to the left. I'm confused as to whether she wants a steep turn or a shallow one. She says steep, but the text-crawl tells me to bank only 20 degrees. I've tried it both ways, and both ways I fail. Is there a walkthrough for this checkride somewhere? I know it's not essential to complete it, but it bugs me, as I didn't have any trouble with the lessons leading up to it.Thanks!

It took me years to pass it. It is the worst way to set up a computer based check ride IMO.I guess you would have to keep at it and hope for the best.

Go here:http://www.fszone.or...ilot-checkride/Read the last message in the thread. After reading it, I passed it, first try! The hardest thing to get past is the steep turn. To maintain altitude and speed so as not to fail it, I find that I have to apply almost full thrust as I go into the turn.

Thank you for those responses, and Notmyidea, thanks very much for the link to that terrific post. It identified precisely what was confusing me: she says something about a steep turn (or the briefing does, I forget which), but the first turn is NOT a steep turn, and the error messages after failing are contradictory -- "you turned too steep, you turned too shallow". With that guide in hand, at least I'll know what I am supposed to be doing. If I stay focused, I can turn and hold speed and altitude. Gotta do the radial-scan thing. It really does help me.Thanks again. I will try it again tomorrow.
