Gauge versus Guage ??

Recommended Posts

When giving support to people that have problems with installing my freeware gauges in their panel, it frequently occurs that the source of their problems is caused by them using the word "guage" instead of "gauge".You also see this mistake in the forums regularly. And the funny thing is: it practically always concerns people who's native language is English :-)Is this just a typing error, or does the word "guage" have a meaning too ??Just curious :-)Rob

Edetroit,<>Why do you assume they're English just because they communicate in English? Americans, Australians, Canadians and New Zealanders also speak English.

I would assume that he is merely poking fun at the correct way to spell, versus the incorrect way. For instance, if you use the ######ized, rotten American English, color is spelled c-o-l-o-r. In the proper Queen's English, colour is spelled c-o-l-o-u-r. Presonally, I prefer the rotten version, but that is just me.Anyway, he may be insinuating that the "correct" way to spell gauge is g-a-u-g-e, and the rotten, slang version is g-u-a-g-e. In fun. Although, if enough people spell it wrong for a long enough time, perhaps Webster's will put it in the dictionary that way. That is how we now have "Nuclear" pronounced as both noo-cle-year and new-Q-ler. The second is obviously wrong, but enough "educated" people and scientists (not to insinuate that scientists are not educated) pronounce it incorrectly that it is now correct.Brian(EDIT) (sorry, spelled something wrong :( )

Another one you see all the time is people who "don't want to loose their minds" - the word is lose, people. Loose is something that a bolt (or morals) can be. Lose is something you do to your car keys.In fun,-- Tom GibsonCalifornia Classic Propliners: http://www.calclassic.com/Cal Classic Alco Page: http://www.calclassic.com/alco/Freeflight Design Shop: http://www.freeflightdesign.com/San Diego Model RR Museum: http://www.sdmodelrailroadm.com/Drop by! ___x_x_(")_x_x___

This is definitely a fun topic, however it really belongs in the Hangar Chat as it is getting off topic for this forum.Brent Hebert
