April 2, 201214 yr Auto-gen with trees/house and main buildings are there from a far, but as you near an airport, planes, trucks, cars, tankers, cargo, etc magically(annoyingly) pop into view only when you are fairly close. Is there a way to increase the distance in which airport ground vehicles and plane are visible?
April 2, 201214 yr Moderator Dont think so. I think the farthest away you can load an object in FSX is 10 miles. Of couse some objects are designed to cull and load and in closer, like 3 to 5 miles, but then they also have LOD's to help with FPS. As neat as it would be to have all the stuff load farther out, it would probably wreck your FPS, especially in dense areas, thats why its designed they way it is. You can alter your terrain LOD from 4.5 to higher levels to prevent the ground textures from looking blurry in the distance, however it cost you some performance depending on your rig and wont make the stufff you want to load any sooner. April 2, 201214 yr Check your fsx.cfg and make sure there's no "small part reject radius" entry. If you used Bojote's tweaker, it's in there and needs to be deleted.
April 3, 201214 yr Commercial Member LOD = Level of Detail In a model sense (the term is also used for scenery ground tiles) a model may or may not have multiple LOD versions. For example, the FSX baggage loader vehicle has 5 LOD models. These are set to LOD10, 25, 50, 100 and 200. FSX determines which model to use based on the size of the object, in pixels, when drawn on screen. So, if the baggage loader will be 30 pixels in size then FSX draws the LOD25 model. If the baggage loader will be more than 200 pixels then FSX will draw the LOD200 model. LOD models are used to reduce the number of polygons that need to be drawn on screen. The LOD settings are not really something you can change as it is coded into each individual model. As Bonchie says, try checking your small part reject radius entry in the FSX.cfg file. Small part reject radius can be used to prevent objects being displayed. If the object will be smaller than the setting in small part reject radius then it won't be drawn. There are exceptions to this rule (the FSX vegetation library is one example) but it would take a long time to explain what they are and why. small part reject radius I think defaults to 5 if you don't have it in your fsx.cfg. www.antsairplanes.com
