The future of PMDG... whats next?

Featured Replies

In my opinion, the A380 is a massive eye sore of a plane. It looks like they just slapped something together to have the worlds largest passenger aircraft and get one leg up on Boeing. Besides, an aircraft that large is really not economical if it is filled with suites and rooms that hold 100 people. Boeing, on the other hand, designs their aircraft with finess that makes them a work of art, like the new 747-8i.

We're not doing an A380 - ugliest plane in the sky if you ask me personally.

I aree 100% with that.

Now the Boeing C-17 Globemaster 111 is a magnificent aircraft and one that has never been done properly?

PMDG stated multiple times that the people want aircraft which they can see at their local airports. I guess most of us have never seen a real C17 Globemaster. Of course it would be cool but there aren´t enough customers. (Always remember, most of the customers do not participate in the community forums!)

Well, it has to be an aircraft that is popular enough to be seen by most people in real life. Obviously a commercial airliner as well, and it's got to be currently flying (otherwise PMDG won't sale as many copies because people like to fly what can currently be flown in the real world).

From Boeing we have:

717 - No Longer Popular

727 - No Longer Popular

737 - Already Developed

747 - In Development

757 - In Development (LDS)

767 - Already Developed (LDS)

777 - In Development

787 - N/A

-Boeing is pretty much accounted for in the FSX Market. There's very little wiggle room here for PMDG, unless they decide to develop an aircraft that is older and currently not a major player in the airline industry, such as the Boeing 717 or the 727. Considering their relationship with Boeing they could also develop an 787, but I'm hesitant to believe they'd step on QualityWings shoes.

Airbus

A318/19/20/21 - In Development (FSL)

A330 - On Slate for Development (FSL)

A340 - On Slate for Development (FSL)

A350 - Plausible?

A380 - Too Ugly to be Developed

-The Airbus Industry is also oversaturated with Flight Sim Labs making Airbus aircraft. PMDG could bite the bullet and develop the A350, but it's probably unlikely.

Embraer

EMB 110 - No Longer Popular

EMB 120 - Plausible?

ERJ 135 - Already Developed (Wilco)

ERJ 140 - Plausible?

ERJ 145 - Already Developed (Wilco)

E 170 - Plausible?

E 175 - Already Developed (Wilco)

E 190 - Plausible?

E 195 - Already Developed (Wilco)

-Embraer has been developed widely by WilcoPubs. Normally PMDG doesn't mind developing aircraft built by Wilco or Captain Sim, but in this instance because the Embraer Family was so well modeled (The E-Jets series is amazingly high quality with serious fidelity and attention to detail) I can't see PMDG stepping down that road. There are gaps where a model can be made, but I find it hard to see PMDG just making one variant of an aircraft family.

Avions de Transport Régional

ATR 42 - Plausible?

ATR 72 - Already Developed (Flight1)

-Wouldn't mind seeing an ATR 42.

Bombardier CRJ

CRJ 100 - Plausible?

CRJ 200 - Plausible?

CRJ 700 - Already Developed (Wilco)

CRJ 705 - Plausible?

CRJ 900 - Already Developed (Wilco)

CRJ 1000 - Already Developed (Wilco)

-While Wilco has developed a lot of the CRJ Family, in this instance I can imagine PMDG deciding to make one anyways. Probably unlikely, but like always the team builds what they would enjoy building, and I can see them having fun learning the ins and outs of a CRJ.

British Aerospace plc

BAe 146 - In Development (QualityWings)

BAe Jestream-41 - Already Developed

-Market covered.

Long post drawn to a close, there's not a whole lot out there PMDG can focus on because there aren't a lot of major players in the Airline Industry. Besides Boeing and Airbus no one else develops long-haul commercial aircraft, and the regional jet market is pretty much dominated by 3 or 4 companies who's products have already been built by Wilco, Flight1 and QualityWings. At this point, I imagine PMDG will just look at what aircraft would be fun for them to build rather than looking at what has already been built or what is brand new/in production/in use. If they don't, what else is out there for them to build?

I honestly don't think PMDG or any addon company could simulate the A380 to a realistic level at the moment. I spent a fair few months studying the Singapore A380 FCOMS and the technology on that beast is mind blowing.

Brake to vacate is a tiny example of tech onboard, that would be virtually impossible to replicate without developers tearing there hair out. I mean RAAS would be a pain in the &@($* and that has been on the MD11, 744, 748,777 for years now.

Anyway, I hope to see one in FS or a future platform oneday, who cares what it looks like from the outside. But for those who are into aircraft porn the stretched A380-800 freighter version will be a correctly proportioned monster, and the longer A380-900 will have a MTOW of 1,260,000 Ib!

I don't want an A380 from PMDG. Their relationship with Boeing is very valuable, and right now they're working on the 777 and 747 2.0.

I feel that same way.

Personally I hate a380 looking its like a whale...

There you go, that makes two of 'em. Have to agree with others as well, the A380 is an impressive spectacle when you see it coming into Manchester in the mornings, but that is one fugly mother, it makes the 747 look like a swan.

Just because other aircrafts are covered by other companies doesn't mean we will not be doing them... 'tis all I can say :-)

I'll give you some examples, the DC-6B has been covered by others, we are doing it. 777 has been covered, still we are doing it. 737NG, we still built ours.... and so on and on, need I say more?

Why asking this? PMDG is not gonna give any info anyway, until they decide themselves when the time is right to do so. Maybe their plans are to work on an Airbus, who knows? And if they do, they will tell us whenever they feel the need to so. Time will tell. But you'll not get these answers by asking.

A380 is the ugliest plane ever built. Very unimpresive to look at but very complicated systems. I would prefer a A340-600. I'm looking foreward to the 777 and 747V2 very much.
