Trying Hard to not like xplane10, but...

Featured Replies

I'd be interested in hearing about options for more aircraft, too. But even so, I'm enjoying X-Plane more than I thought I would.

So am I but I'd rather see some new utilities and or scenery more than aircraft.

X-Plane at night looks fantastic, and by day it still looks decent, even accounting for the unfinished airports.

Agree +1

The ATC is incomplete, but it's already quite interesting, and it promises to improve.

Agree +2

And one other thing that I really like: X-Plane has not crashed once for me so far.

Agree +1000

Even though my FSX was/is pretty stable I have so many add ons stacked upon it that there is no wonder It crashed from time to time. Even though it did not happen too often when it did it was pretty frustrating furthermore I spent a considerable amount of time troubleshooting and tinkering with it.

Xplane never had problems installing planes, nor the software like FSX nightmare with Vista and Win 7. Bought new cancredo plane decided xplane over fsx, as I know FSX not predictable when it comes to installing. Xplane GA planes are harder to fly , but like feel of xplane flying as little inputs are noticed and oscillations and handling feel more lively than FSX. Wish more people look into Xplane its carney in goldmine of innovations long term.

Yep, I did it, and purchased and tried X-PLANE 10 a couple of weeks ago, and finally I throw the DVDs out the window to study basics of flying.

Ok, this was a joke, but the result is nearly the same: After installation of 80GB I had a lot of trouble to configure a minimum of my hardware. There is nothing predifined in that piece of software. CH Products Coolie Had? no idea, Elite Throttle quadrant, none, and so on. A huge config screen full of question marks is still in need to be customized. The first circuit using a simple c172 was also awfull. I looks like I still have to configure the flight dynamics for each joystick or other flight control. However, it is much easier to fly and land a real live cessna, than trying the same with this simulator.

Sorry, just my 2 cents, but there is still a lot of work to do for developers. For me, it is still not a replacement for FSX.

I have the opposite perspective. FSX is not a replacement for X-Plane. FSX is buggy, and it freezes or crashes with depressing regularity. X-Plane has crashed only once on me, ever. I had no trouble configuring my hardware for X-Plane (CH Eclipse, CH pedals, TrackIR), and I love that it gives me complete freedom to set any button to anything. The flight model is livelier and more challenging than that of FSX, which feels like driving a car. There are great aircraft and good scenery available for X-Plane.

Just my two cents. :)

Some times, it's too lively. It's tail shouldn't be wagging when it is. Much of the time, flying a "real" plane, is even less of a moving sensation, than driving a car. As to being more challenging........why? I often hear that, but wonder what the exact challanges are, as I don't see them. As to FSX, it's been pretty much worry free, all of these years. BTW--- I'm not complaining about X-Plane; I've eliminated some unwanted liveliness.

Yes, agreed, sometimes it's too lively. Occasionally I'll eliminate some unwanted liveliness too.

I'm glad FSX is worry-free for you; it's never been worry-free for me. I didn't used to care so much about the crashes and freezes, but now that I play FS Economy, I have to restart a flight if/when FSX freezes or crashes. There are things I can do to minimize the chance of a freeze/crash in FSX: most notably, refraining from using replay or FSRecorder. But even in just plain old vanilla flight, it will occasionally freeze for no reason. By contrast, X-Plane never crashes on me, even when I'm alt-tabbing in and out like crazy, no matter how many times I do playback, from no matter how many different angles.

There are some things I prefer about FSX: the massive amount of scenery and aircraft addons, in particular. But that stuff is accumulating for X-Plane now, too. My new Leading Edge Simulations DC-3 is just a joy. I have some nice photoscenery for Oahu and elsewhere, and I'm about to install some more airport scenery. X-Plane gets better every day.

FSX to install correctly I took for free introduction to Microsoft windows course getting it installed. Wasted a weeks time getting FSX installed it should install easier than X-plane? Looked thru Avsim forums learning how reinstall and cleanup garbage left behind from my previous install. Without AVSIM forum FSX would be collecting dust. Great for eye candy but X-plane will catch in time. X-plane not perfect but at least spend time learning to fly instead of learning how to cleanup software registry and how administrator functions work for windows. Next computer I get gonna just gonna let FSX collect Dust and install FS2004 and Xplane 10 since I know both will work here.
