Everyone is okay with flying in a simulation but how about a real plane?

Featured Replies

For some reason I'm scared sh*t getting into a prop-plane. I have no issues with airliners, but getting into a smaller plane -- my body and mind still says no.

I use to have a fear of flying, and I think I attribute that to being not in control of the situation -- FSX/flight sim has eased that fear a little bit -- at least I know whats going on at certain stages of flight.

Yep I'm it's just great to be up in the real skies :-)

My first time flying was in July 2010. I had never been on an airplane before and there I was taking off on the airplane myself lol. I had lots of flight simulator experience which taught me fundamentals but I still had never been in a real plane. I was always scared of aircraft especially after 2001 but after flying in the Cessna 172 that day I never looked back. The experience was so nice and beautiful and I got a bit of an adrenaline rush. At first I wanted to get back on the ground after taking off because I was so scared and I never left earth before but after 30 minutes I was comfortable and loving it. You shouldn't be scared, the only way to face your fears is to conquer them so if you like take a ride at your local airport with an FBO and take a discovery flight. It won't hurt and it will be tons of fun :-). Plus you should be more scared of being on an airliner than such a small plane like a Cessna that's been around for over 70 years. Infact it's even better not to fear both, airliners are the same thing as those small planes as well. They might have more parts, be bigger, and carry more passengers but they work off the same physics.

Flying for real is so much fun! How can anyone be scared? And I am not some thrill seeker either. Helicopters are a little more fragile though, never been in one.

But on a fixed wing you can still get out of trouble if you have an engine failure (yes you can also on a helo). So the point is valid, the roads are more dangerous than aviation.

The thing is flying is so expensive. Especially in Australia where they love to regulate and tax EVERYTHING!

My choice of machine-Piper Warrior. An underwing aircraft is so cool.

Word Not Allowed don't say never. If you focus on your ATPL you will get it someday.
