April 21, 201214 yr Hi all, I'm placing this post here within the FSX forum as it has directly to do with FSX, but not necessarily, the 'flight' angle. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ I guess that I make no secret of how thrilled I am regarding the level of visual quality, and detail to 'the nines', within Orbx's PNW scenery, Rockies, etc... Just the other day, I was flying out of Bella Coola, B.C. and having taken off, towards the town at the edge of a fjord, to my right was a very inviting valley rift between two very tall peaks/ranges. Flowing through this valley was a river wide enough for a landing upon, timing where to land for the twists and turns of its course. Once landed, I turned the aircraft around facing the route I had taken up the valley. As I floated with just a hint of power and use of the rudders to keep in the center, I got to thinking of how much fun it would be to be able to fly into any wilderness Orbx scenery, and having once landed, be able to pick from my aircraft choices, an Orbx-created: Sea Kayak, and by use of the right and left mouse buttons, be able to see either my left, or right arm (holding the paddle) make the paddling stroke, or if held down on either side, be the method to steer the kayak either left or to the right. I would imagine this Kayak as seen by my virtual eyes, as the front half of Kayak, the bow visual, and if I panned to either the left or right as you would in a cockpit release...you'd see your shoulders and arms holding the paddle. To make it more personally identifiable with the user, you could pick skin tone of your arms and hands, as that's all the body parts that would be truly needed to give you 'actively being there, and immersion'. You would not need to be able to use the outside view, so as to keep production costs down. Just the first-person view, as seen through your 'eyes' as you either look left, or right to view the animated action of your hand holding the paddle. This could also be in the form of a canoe...whatever.... I have enjoyed the Orbx scenery from ground/lake/river/marina--etc...level as much as flying over it. Orbx....I wonder how hard it would be to make such a great addition to the depth and detail that you have obviously put into your custom scenery offerings. Honestly Orbx... I could spend many a few hours exploring the Rockies on a beautiful virtual lake or river/cause-way, as much as the flying over of it. With your scenery, you have created much more immersion and/or realism than perhaps the original developers ever imagined FSX would produce, and depth thereof. So...I created this post for the hope that others would enjoy to have you offer a simple 'marine' (kayak, canoe) release. One that would so add to the usage of your fab scenery on the whole. Orbx...if I could myself offer this marine vehicle, I'd be onto it in a heartbeat. For those reading, if you do not have an amphib, get one....land on a river and lake, and then relax....taxi...do the rubber-neck, and be truly amazed at the depth of realism as you cruise by land terrain, cliffs, river outlets, bays, vertical mountain peaks...and how truly relaxing and 'putting you there' it all feels. Orbx...you'd have a sale the day you released perhaps my 'version' of how I'd like to see my 'virtual self' paddling the kayak or canoe, in the first person. If anybody else sees merit in having a really decent marine experience in using Orbx scenery....please, give your encouragement to this thread...and maybe the Orbx management will read and at least discuss this possibly being created and offered as another avenue to enjoying the Orbx scenery packs users have purchased. I can only imagine having this around NA PAKT scenery! Thanks all for the read, and please...if you could see this as a fun 'different' way of using FSX...then please post your interest. Orbx...if you also read this, and find this idea interesting, also please post so others see that if enough customers for this release showed initial interest, you would actually consider creating this add-on for your scenery. Thanks so much! Mitch
April 21, 201214 yr Author "Well, with 77 views and nobody 'signing' onto the idea...I guess then that I'm the only one to wish to have an immersive, water-elevation experience. I guess that I will have to wait until somebody in freeware, whatever, produces what I had in mind.... Oh well.....
April 21, 201214 yr Do you know you can drive a BMW on the orbx scenery? Check out some of their videos :) Soarbywire - Avionics Engineering

April 21, 201214 yr All right...all your Orbx lovers! I got the PNW recently. Need a few good airports (the bigger the better. Yes. I like large size airports as much as possible.. Yes Paved runway instead of grass runways) around the Seattle area. I prefer staying close to the KSEA. At the same time, I'd like airports close to the water or mountain ranges. Could y'all please suggest 4 or 5 Orbx airports I can't afford to get them all..even with the 40%off sales. Please! thanks Manny Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter
April 21, 201214 yr Hi, Although not kayaks, and although not designed for quiet paddling around and about, the following are sources of some nice watercraft for the FSX environment. April 21, 201214 yr Author I had a "Mitch" moment while flying in FTX NZ yesterday: ------------------------------------------- A 'Mitch' moment?!? Oh, you mean you HAD A BLAST? OK...then I'll have a moniker associated after my name....lol. This 'moment' is a good thing. We should all have many of these er....moments....lololol. Mitch (moment) @Sesquashtoo........What you describe doesn't appeal or interest me personally, but it is good to think outside the box and come up with new ideas to expand the hobby. B) ------------------------------------------------------------- It's what keeps me engaged with Life. As you say, thinking outside the 'box'. :) Cheers! B) Rusty ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Thanks Rusty....will check the links out. Post Edit: Rusty, some of links look VERY interesting. Again, thanks for pointing them out! Post Edit2: Rusty....HAVING A BLAST with the Aquarama speedboat. I'm ripping around the harbor at Orbx Ketchikan. What a hoot! A very big thank you for this link!!!!! I now land the plane....and walk down to the docks...where my NEW boat lies ready...... WHAT A HOOT! Gawd..but you have to love what you can do with FSX, other than merely fly.... I would still wish for a sea kayak or canoe for those quiet inland lakes. FSX is only limited by your imagination.....and strictly that. Only...that. All right...all your Orbx lovers! I got the PNW recently. Need a few good airports (the bigger the better. Yes. It will handle jets, but of course you need to pick up CRM as well.

April 21, 201214 yr Orbx do not make big airport any-more, all the airport are for GA for PNW. I know.. What I meant by big was "relative to all the airports they make, the bigger ones are preferable.." Paved runway to grass strips. that sort of thing. Two runways over 1 runway...etc Longer runway over shorter runways.. LOL :) Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter

April 21, 201214 yr Author To RustyFlyer: I wanted to come back once more...and to thank you so very much for that link to the Clariss Aquarama! This boat...ROCKS! The sound when you start the motor, the wake, the animation of the waves as the bow takes them....and the use of the joystick to move the both port or starboard. Wow.... Not to mention that Orbx has great wave slapping/sloshing water effects at most of their docks and harbors for their waterfronts. I now have made a 'load' of the Clariss at the Milford Harbor Docks, just by that yacht..... This is as real an animation as ever I have had upon a boat. To the author....(seen within the downloaded zip.) this creation of yours is way beyond 'freeware'. I thank you for having made it. It now completes the FULL usage of FSX's world depiction capabilities when being run full and wide open in all graphics. What a great time, to be in flight simulation, FSX style...... Thank you all in general for every contribution that is being made to FSX's world....land, air, and now....sea...... I am on pause just about to clear the headland out of the Milford Harbor in NZ South Island (Orbx) Everybody have a great Saturday...for I sure know that I am! :) Post Edit: Just came back to say that ACCU-FEEL has the hull slapping against the waves.....what a blast! When in the boat's cockpit....do a looksee over your right shoulder..and check out the babe moving and smiling at you in the bikini.....er..nice touch author... :) Mitch Moment
