LNAV, VNAV, CMD A, LVL CHG?

Recommended Posts

Going through the sequence on departure I click the basic procedure of LNAV VNAV and then CMD A. After that however I am asked for climb thrust and then it wants me to click LVL CHG.. therefore disengaging VNAV... this does not seem right because I fly my whole departure and climb through LNAV and VNAV. Why is it forcing LVL CHG on me?

I am not manually arming it, i'm doing it via FS2crew, and I always engage Vnav after 500ft

Hmm, I'm sure I have noticed this too. I'll check it the next time I fly...

Manually engaging VNAV is what's tripping things up.

Engage VNAV when it's visible in the FS2Crew Main or Secondary window.

If you want total unscripted freedom over commands, you'll need to use the Voice Control version.

Cheers,

Stated above.. I am using it through FS2crew, NOT manually.

So you're engaging VNAV when it appears in one of the FS2Crew windows, and engaging VNAV by pressing the Secondary/Main Button?

FS2Crew should give you a VNAV prompt basically after the flaps are up.

Take a look at both profiles:

I am only clicking it when it appears in the fs2crew window

I think the problem could be the button push gets sent more than once/gets repeated. In the FSX control options there is a slider next to the buttons you program, make sure that slider is fully to the left, or else it'll behave as though you're holding the button.

Call should look like this... try using NADP 2.

For NADP 1 (former ICAO A)

400ft Select Roll mode

Climb at V2+10

At 800/1000/1500 Reduce to Max Climb Thrust (N1). Call for Level Change.

Climb to 3000 AGL

At 3000 AGL Set flaps up Speed , Accelerate and retract flaps on schedule then push VNAV,.

VNAV would not be engaged until 3000ft AGL and flaps retracted.

NOISE ABATEMENT DEPARTURE PROCEDURE B (NADP 2 )

400ft Select Roll mode

Take-off to 1000 ft above aerodrome elevation:

Climb at V2 + 10 to 20 kt.

At 1000 ft:

Climb Thrust

Set Flaps up Speed

Maintaining a positive rate of climb, accelerate to zero flap minimum safe

maneuvering speed (VZF ) retracting flap on schedule.

Thereafter, 1000 ft to 3000 ft:

Continue climb at not greater than VZF + 10 kt.

At 3000 ft:

Push VNAV

Accelerate smoothly to en-route climb speed.

When I follow the NADP 2 procedure above all go's well until I get to after pressing climb thrust.

At this point I have Level Change in the left window and VNAV in the right window.

There is no Set Flaps up Speed Available.

I Have the latest PMDG and FS2 Crew updates installed.

Where have I gone wrong?

Thanks Ken

I've just spent a good hour practicing these departures, so if you haven't sorted it yet, maybe this will help -

The trick is to select Level Change and leave VNAV in the right window.

You'll then get the option to set your flaps up speed. In NADP1 you need to wait till 3000' before actually raising the flaps. In NADP2 you can get on with that sooner.

In both cases, leave VNAV in the right window till you hit 3000' - after that, VNAV can be selected and you'll then get CMD A as an option, and you're away.

Has taken me a while to get there, but I feel I have it now.

This all works whether you have only 1 or both or neither of L/V/NAV armed, so far as I can tell, but there are slight variations in those different cases, I'll try to pin them down and post again.

For now it's kind of useful to me to commit this to writing so I can see where I have got to! :)
