How to improve your enjoyment of Flight and this Flight forum

Featured Replies

Ban people who hate Flight? Like Arwen perhaps?

The ironic thing about all of this is that I actually like flight a lot. Been playing it almost daily since the very day it was released. I have even defended some of Flight's decisions when I see the hating get out of hand, I've got a moderate soul and I naturally tend to balance out extremes. But alas, I'm a hater because I'm not shy to criticize the aspects of Flight I don't like.

The silly thing about all of this is that the lovers have gotten so one sided that now the average joe can't get on here and say something as benign as "I"m growing tired of Hawaii", without having to also caveat it with "I love Flight!, I really do, but...", or else they feel like they will "make the list". This has gotten out of hand, and is purposefully antagonistic towards the reasonable folks that simply have different opinions. RIP Arwen.

I am not banning anyone. This isn't about banning. This simply is about (temporarily) not seeing posts from someone who almost all of the time posts something that's simply useless and annoying and spoils my fun. Of course everyone may say that he or she is growing tired of Hawaii. I've said that myself a few times already. I really have to watch out for not getting bored with the game so I don'f fly too often and I try to keep things interesting. But I also post what I do like or I give tips or I try to help others getting more out of the game... In short, I try to have fun myself and I try to let other have fun too. Some people ONLY moan and post funny oneliners.

Imagine you are in a cafe where a lot of people are talking about a specific subject. There is one guy who only says things to annoy people: he is not contributing anything to the conversation or discussion: he is only out to spoil the fun for others. In real life you would either walk away or you would (with the others) get rid of the guy or whatever else is possible. When you get back to the cafe a week later and that guy is still talking crap, would you even THINK about joining a converstation he is involved in? Well, maybe you would, but I surely wouldn't. I would choose the company I like. And if that guy would continue to invite himself into the conversation you have, wouldn't you after a while tell him to ###### off? I would.

Since this is a forum and I can't walk away without leaving EVERYTHING behind, the ignore list is the only possible option to ignore the annoying guy and still have fun with the people you like. It's the only instrument available to choose the company I like. And when it comes to Flight, I like to have company of people who also like Flight. Simple as that.

You say you like Flight and that really surprises me. Now... whose fault is that? Mine? Or yours..? I didn't notice ANYTHING about you being moderate and balancing out extremes...! Sorry for that, but I can't help it! Maybe instead of only posting what you don't like about Flight, try to post something that you DO like about Flight. If you don't people think you are a troll. If you balance your posts a bit more people would know you aren't simply trolling but you are expressing your concern out of 'love' for Flight. Know what I mean?

BTW (Not in reply to your post, vonBobo, but I am talking in general now) I think it would also help if everyone who does like Flight would simply ignore crappy oneliners. The topic that made me start this topic had one stupid post and a lot of people (including me) reacted to it. Those reactions pollute the forum just as much (if not more) as the oneliner... If 'we' all stop replying to stupid posts and just ignore them (with or without the ignore option of this forum), the people who post them will move away after a while.

And we will live happily ever after.

It should take a lot more than one crappy post to get on anyone's Ignore list. Everyone has bad days.

You have to try pretty hard to get on mine, but if 90% of your output is rude, argumentative, trolling, willfully-ignorant, childish, egotistical, etc. that's where you're going to go. Not because I'm trying to "silence" anyone but simply because you've consistently demonstrated you have pretty much nothing useful to add to the discussion and my blood-pressure doesn't need any more boosting, anyway.

For the curious, I just checked and don't see any "You have blocked posts by..." messages in this thread. :Peace:

Already in hand. There are several threads I have perused that were never going to go anyplace. I read them just to stay informed, but in my mind is a little sign that says "Do not add to the fire."

Sadly, there are also threads I have been tempted into even when I really should have known better. (ignored the warning signs)

No, they did not turn out well. :fool:

Maybe on day I will have the maturity to faithfully heed my internal "ignore thread" button, as well.

Way ahead of you on this one.

The main problem is all the troll feeding. Trolls will be trolls, but they need food to thrive. =)

I wonder if the OP "sticks his head in the sand" in real life to avoid seeing and hearing some of the things he/she does not want to encounter. If so, I can understand his comment.

Now.....Jeroen, you can ban me from your reads. Enjoy your "sanitized" forum.

Though if somebody quotes a post by a blocked person, you will still see it.

How do we know you are really Nick from London?

Fair enough. Perhaps I am really your cousin, Herr Eric von Booboo...

Talking of names where does vonBobo come from? I'm sorry, but your name does remind me of the Spanish word 'bobo' (= dumb). Is it a family name?

It's Stan the man - or should it be the Clown with the frown?

Great idea! I'm new to flight simulation type games and one of the things that has really turned me off is the near constant and non-productive complaining of some individuals...

It is not a habit of mine to put my head in the sand for everything 'bad' or 'negative'. But when it comes to Flight and when I have the choice, I gladly put my head in the sand. I only play Flight because I enjoy it and I only talk about it here (and elsewhere) for the same reason. So when I have the option to not read things I don't like to read, I see no reason to not use that option. I think this is perfectly normal for hobbies you have. In fact, I think it is not normal when you enjoy negative talk about something you like.

But let me repeat: I don't block everything that's negative because then I would have to block myself too. I am only blocking trolls and the likes. You aren't on my list yet because you didn't behave badly enough.

I don't consider it putting my head in the sand. I think of it as the same thing as my 3 year old son saying "Daddy I am hungry!" over and over and over while we are driving home. I understood the first time, really got the point the 10th time, and by the 50th time I heard it, I just want it to stop.

Thankfully the ignore feature of the forums makes it stop, this is not available with my 3 year old. =D

I have been hesitant to discuss my likes about Flight

Ouch.

I can guess what that's all about. Good luck.

It's ok to like Flight, even if you can't talk about it. Look around and you'll see you're in pretty good company. You can also like Flight without choosing sides, although some people will disagree.

Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;

The comment about the "clown with the frown" is out of line. YOU ARE NOW BANNED FROM MY READING. I DON'T LIKE BEING CALLED NAMES. GET IT? Before I owned my own business, I taught English for 10 years. I used to teach Huckelberry Finn by Mark Twain, and The Scarlet Letter by Hawthorne. Many called for these American classics to NOT BE TAUGHT because of possible racial overtones and sexual discussions. I guess we should take lessons from Fahrenheit 451 by Bradbury where all BOOKS are banned because too much dissention can occur when people have contrasting opinions.

Get educated! Forums always used to be where you could voice opinions. You don't have to agree, and you don't have to read those comments. But YOU are the loser if you hide from those opinions. They can be enlightening, and they can CHANGE things in this society for the better. They can also change developers of these sims so that they are better experiences for both you and for me.

Everyone complains these days about every thing, and so many are so sensitive to opinions that they don't hold. Frankly, I'm fed up with it.
