1.5V, much better on these finicky newer chips.

Interesting. Does the mem controller on the IB chips not like over 1.5?

It has been recommended by Intel not to exceed 1.5V for VDimm since Lynnfield, a 45nm chip. I'd hate to push a 22nm chip any further! Given my own personal results, I'm inclined to agree with their recommendations.

I believe he was talking IB.

Interesting about the RAM voltage.

When looking at the web page for my local computer dealer where I buy most of my PC stuff it wasn't that much to choose from if you want a combination of 2133MHz and CL9 memory but I found memory with the spec as below. Not sure about the voltage but guess I could find out Googling for it.

G.Skill Ripjaws X 8GB DDR3 PC17000/2133MHz CL9 2x4GB (F3-17000CL9D-8GBXM)

OK, so would that mean that you're good to go with memory requiring more than 1.5V if you're on a Sandy Bridge platform?

I'm talking about anything later than original Core I5/I7 "Nehalem" 45nm socket 1366 chips. If you're using any other socket (i.e. socket 2011, 1156, 1155), you need to run voltage lower than 1.65V to guarantee compatibility and longevity. Some users have had no problems with voltage up to 1.65V, I however have and am therefore not recommending anything with such high voltage.

Holy Holy Holy thread revival,

What was the final verdict?

I am happily running my 2500k at 4.7 @ 1.40V.
