Mi-8 SBAI helipad - how to build a correct AFCAD?

Featured Replies

Good evening flight simmers,

recently I bought SBAI's Mi-8 heli for AI traffic. By the way, purchasing was easy, the model comes with many interesting liveries "all over Siberia" and amazing behaviour - performing vertical startups directly from the helipad.

To use this feature, it is necessary to build special AFCAD files for every helipad designed for Mi-8. I found a tutorial at avsim.su, which is written in Russian; to download it, you have to search for "vertodromi" at the files (файлы) section. I know some Russian from school (former GDR), and with the help of the illustrations I tried to build some heliports for my personal use.

Sergey's Mi-8 comes with many heliport all over Ukraine and Russia, so I had some good examples, too.

For every heliport one has to insert two runways with the same direction; one for takeoff (in front of the helipad, base end closed for landing) and one for landing (behind the helipad, base end closed for takeoff), whose base ends' heading is the same as the heading of the helipad, which is, in fact, a parking spot. The reciprocal ends of both runways are closed both for landing and takeoff.

Unfortunately, my AFCADs work not as good as Sergey's at all. These are the problems:

1. In spite of avoiding the closed reciprocal ends for takeoff and landing, depending on wind direction my helis frankly start from the closed reciprocal end of the runway which is designed for landing on base end only.

Question: Is it possible to prevent the heli (or any other aircraft -> similar problem in Sochi, too, where you can only land from the seaside and only start towards the seaside, but my AI planes approach from the mountains...) from using a closed runway?

Yes I read the recent thread

http://forum.avsim.n...i-not-behaving/

and especially Tom Gibsons advices. But his link seems to have broken since then (I find no tutorial there and a search for "x-wind" found no entries), and my runways have exactly the same heading, so there is no 8 degree difference between them.

There's also a forum at Sergey's website, but I experience SQL errors when I try to reach it.

2. When using closed runways, the heli performs a pushback before starting its engine. Very strange behaviour for an heli, indeed...

Question: Is it possible to "forbid" pushback via AFCAD file or via aircraft.cfg?

By the way, pushback is only performed if heli uses the closed runway. If I change the wind direction so thet the heli uses the correct runway for takeoff, it starts his engine at its parking spot and takes off immediately. So it seems to be a problem rather of AFCAD than of the aircraft configuration.

Any recommendations are welcome, especially experiences with buildings AFCADs for helipads designed for SBAI's Mi-8...

Many thanks and best regards from Dresden
