Weird RegOpenKey query activity in background (registry)

Recommended Posts

FS9

PMDG B744 installed.

While trying to identify memory leaks from add on scenery in FS9 by using the excellent tool Process Monitor I stumped up on this repetitive incident which takes place continuously in bursts in the background.

Event Class: Registry

Operation: RegOpenKey

Result: NAME NOT FOUND

Path: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Precision Manuals Development Group\PMDG747_400\1.00.16

TID: 3648

Duration: 0.0000124

Desired Access: Query Value

I am not flying the PMDG 744 when this takes place.

It is just installed in FS and I fly with it often.

I don't know if it consumes significant memory but is it not dumb for FS to constantly look for something it cannot find while NOT flying the PMDG 744 ?

I actually I had to filter out this continuous repetitive event so that I could read others taking place at the time.

Any clues ?

It's probably from another PMDG product, not FSX itself. PMDG is most likely using shared libs for all their products, so it must be looking for signs of them in the system.

I must admin though, that reading same registry key so often is not right. App should do it once at the start-up, and be done with it.

It shouldn't cause any troubles though, as most of the registry is being cached in memory, and once read for the first time it stays in memory for some longer time. No FPS lost then.

Process Monitor will tell you which process is accessing that Regkey. What process is it?
