How big is the jump from the QW 757 to the PMDG 747?

Recommended Posts

I'm kind of surprise you bought it considering they are going to do the 747 v2. I held off for a long time on the Queen until I saw it at Fry's for $25, although since I only paid a few bucks for it I will certainly spend the $70 for v2 when it comes out since it will have more up to date graphics and any other improvements they will add from v1.

Open a support ticket on their site if you cant get it activated.

Yeah, I guess. Really I don't want to wait that long for it, and are they seriously gonna charge full price to the people who already have V1? Isn't that a little OTT? Or is it literally a completely different, totally overhauled plane?

And I got the validation sorted!

I have to say that I am eagerly awaiting some screenies of the 747v2 from PMDG! Really excited to see that we will have 2 long haul airliners not too long from now.

Yeah I am excited to see the pics as well. Plus when you combine the updated VC and graphics and all the new features like the NGX has with the loading, fueling, pax, doors and all that type of stuff controlled thru the FMC it will be an awesome a/c, I am on the fence with the T7 and dont really need two monstrosities in my hanger, although since I have never had the experience of riding in a T7, curiosity will probably get the best of me and I will purchase it as well.

It's probably a totally overhauled a/c, or at least enough so that it will garner the full price tag.

V2 of the 747 is not going to come out until the end of this year. Might as well the 747 as it has aged well IMO. Some people don't like the virtual cockpit but I have no problems, not as sharp as their NGX but does the job very well. Still my favorite airplane. Been flying it since it was first released for FS9.

The forthcoming revised PMDG 747 is a complete overhaul apparently. Obviously some of the groundwork and research will have been laid in having made the 747 already once for FS9 and once for FSX, but to expect a large discount for having bought something quite a few years ago is not something I feel I am entitled to demand, since it is probably going to be based more on the experiences gained from making the NG for FSX than how they went about making the 747 previously, since like every other develop0er out there, they improve and change their methods and skills.

PMDG is for extreme hardcore simmers. You are going to need to read the manuals, follow some Youtube videos or use the Angle of Attack training to really get the hang of the Queen of the Skies.

PMDG is also for ordinary, non-hardcore simmers like myself. I use the NGX & 747 from PMDG, but limit my use to most everything EXCEPT starting from cold and dark, and flying sid/stars. I always start the sim w/ engines running ready for pushback, but still immensely enjoy setting up the FMC and flying to my destination. Adding GSX has caused me to want to have to go back and learn startup routines. For setting up the FMC in the 747, you will only need to learn a few things over the QW757 which I also have.
