MD-11 question

Recommended Posts

In-regards to the MD-11, is VCL the Vzf (i.e., minimum clean speed)?

Specifically, in regards to the following, what does VSR and VCL denote?

APT PRWY POAT PWIND PQNH PMRTW FLP CONF THRUST V1 VR V2 PTOW

PHNL 08L +26°C 140/14 30.03 550850 FLAPS 10 FLEX +59°C 172 178 183 549496

RMKS - CALCULATIONS VALID AT ALT 29.88 AND ABOVE

- SPEED/FLAPS SCHEDULE: VFR=V2+10 VSR=238 VCL=268

VCL is the minimum clean speed.

VFR is the speed that you retract the flaps at.

VSR is the speed that you retract the slats..

Thanks, Bank Angle. I guess I better get clearance to go above 250 knots.

No need to. The 250 under 100 rule does not apply if your minimum clean speed is over 250. Just fly 270 and it will be OK.

ATC expects you to fly at 250 knots or below. If your climb speed is greater than 250, you need to tell ATC to get clearance to go faster than 250. Now, if they say no, tell them that according to federal regulations you are the pilot in command and operating your aircraft safely and legally within reason, of course...

This has been discussed ad nauseum Kenny. The rule states clearly you may fly at 250 or lower, or if min clean is more than 250, then fly at min clean.

ATC will figure whats up anyway if they see an MD-11 or B747 or whatever flying faster after departure...
