Hi Folks

Please lets put an end to these utterly pointless

naysayer comparisons of apples and prawn sandwiches.

Membership of any STEAM Official Game Groups

has nothing whatsoever to do with players of that game.

e.g.

STEAM MS FLIGHT -

1,105 - Official Game Group members

3,103 - Players recommend this game to their friends

3,188 - Players concurrently playing FLIGHT, (snapshot 05/04/2012)

EDIT - 3,188 might possibly have been a daily stat.

Membership of any STEAM Official Game Groups

is the equivalent of

AVSIM members who've specifically clicked the Follow This Forum button.

Flight isn't in the current top 100 today. #100 is Alien Swarm and has 543 current players also 543 is the peak for Alien Swarm today.

Age of Empires Online has 2,090 current online peak of 2,099

Batman Arkham City has 1,626 current online peak of 1641

I don't know if Steam counts Flight that wasn't purchased through Steam.

There is Fierce competition in the game world Ms try to put Flight in !

Indeed, it's not in the top 100 for Steam today neither. I was curious and checked for other popular flight simulations sold on Steam, but none of them (IL2, both new and old, Wing of Prey, DSC A10 and Black Shark, Take On Helicopters...) are present (but none of them are very recent, and people who buy DCS on Steam often migrate away from it due to patches being available earlier without Steam).

In fact, the simulation that is there in top 100 is Railworks. Quite surprising as I always thought that rail sim were more of a niche than flight sims, but I did hear that Railworks is quite a success and DLC is selling well on Steam (and this should be encouraging for the survival of Flight, but it still needs to climb a bit the ladder and get up there with Railworks). One thing that might have helped Railworks is the sheer amount of DLC: during a while, whenever I was checking new releases on Steam, there was always a Railworks DLC - this means that the game is getting constant exposure, which is something Flight is not able to do right now. Are Railworks DLC first or third party content?

To a question posed on the beta forums, a moderator said that their belief was that historically DLC came slowly at first, then increased in frequency as the team learns how to streamline things and iron out bottlenecks, establish reliable procedures, etc........

The vibe was of the "Give us some time" variety.

It is true we should keep in mind that Flight is only a few months old, whereas Train simulator has been out for several years.

We are all connected..... To each other, biologically...... To the Earth, chemically...... To the rest of the Universe atomically.

And FLIGHT is really NEW, FRESH, GREAT CODE put together with some inherited features from MSFS, but bringing us a unique flight simulation experience with features unique to any simulator, and many others much improved frm the MSFS series.

Flying gliders since 1980

Flightsimming since 1992

AMD Ryzen 5600x, 32GB RAM, GPU Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB, 1 TB and 500 GB nvme2 SSD drives, HP 27" 60Hz LED monitor @ 1920x1080, T16000, Hotas from old X52 Pro, Saitek Combat Rudder Pro (2010 model)

That's encouraging. If Railworks Train Sim started with a slow DLC schedule and managed to climb where they are (a) year(s) later, there's no reason why Flight couldn't do that as well.

We're seeing it from the impatient point of view of existing users, but if it's designed to last, newcomers will join next year, and the year after - this type of user would face a rich palette of DLC, like Railworks is able to now, and would experience none of the frustration/impatience sometime seen here now.

I really wish Flight to follow the steps of Railworks. Being on Steam will help a lot to follow these steps I think. Time will tell.

Railworks 3 (train sim 2012) was released Sept 2011.Also all Railworks downloads on Steam aren't from Kuju. If I want I can repaint trains or build my own trains or scenery.

And I still think Flight would be wise to do as Railworks 3 (open itself to 3rd party, allow players to tinker/create) in this regard in the future.

Oh the irony, hoping Flight gets as many users as Trainsim.
