VOR, TACAN, DME reach in FLIGHT....

Works fine...

 

Just tested that indeed flying to low and distant from a sation you will loose it, and I was able to catch one at 182NM when I climbed above 7000'...


Main Simulation Rig:

Ryzen 5600x, 32GB RAM, Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti, 1 TB & 500 GB M.2 nvme drives, Win11.

Glider pilot since 1980...

Avid simmer since 1992...

Sure does. And not only distance is a factor but also mountains around you: they can block the signal.

Jeroen, I didn't even try to test such a degree of detail, but if confirmed I must say this is a first time EVER in any simulator I know of, including a few LevelD (I work next to one at Lisbon airport .... and was luck enough to fly Buses on it ...)

 

I'm speachless!!!

I can confirm that both altitude and terrain block the signal.

Terrain definitely creates radio propagation shadows in Flight. I've noted it low off Oahu's North Shore, where you lose the Honolulu and Koko Head VORs due to island's high central plateau, as well as south-west of Lanai, where you can watch the ILS reception come and go as you dip below the cliff edge and then climb back above it.

Well, if I wasn't already, I totally/unconditionally surrender to FLIGHT... Let the ADF arrive and see if their is the well known sea/land NDB interfernce as well as interference from thunderstorms :-)

I have not tried to verify documented real-world null-zones in Flight, so I can't say if the terrain effects correspond to real ones. The ones I've seen seem logical, though.
