RC and airport modified with airport design editor ADE

Featured Replies

I used Airport Design Editor to change the tower frequency at KANE from 126.05 to its real world frequency of 132.4. When FSX starts, it rebuilds its scenery database. Vanilla FSX ATC then recognizes 132.4 as the new tower frequency.I then exited FSX. I then started RC (after running makerwys) and rebuilt the scenery database using the button on the RC screen, then started FSX and loaded a flight plan into RC. However, RC is still using the previous tower frequency. Is there something else that needs to be done to get the new tower frequency into RC? I know I can put it in on the controllers screen, but what about getting it in there as the new default?1

RC4 uses a fixed database of comm frequencies in rcv4\data\f4.csv. You can edit this carefully with notepad or other text editor. Do not edit it with a spreadsheet application and you must follow the spacing and comma placements exactly. It is important to make a safe copy of this file outside of the rcv4.folder so if it fails to load you have a safe copy without a reinstall of RC..

Here is the present line in f4.csv: (It was wrapped into two lines here but is in fact one line)

KANE,Minneapolis - Anoka Co-Blaine,120.62,121.3,121.85,126.05,123.05,0,126.5,126.5

and modified:

KANE,Minneapolis - Anoka Co-Blaine,120.62,121.3,121.85,132.4,123.05,0,126.5,126.5

Notice there are no spaces after the commas. The cursor should fall after the last character if hitting the end key.

When saving be sure if the filename is changed to f4.csv.txt be sure to get rid of the .txt. Save as an MSDOS text type file.

Did you add the ILS I-ANE and extend the runway 9/27 on the west end along with its parallel taxiways?

At one time I was going to be ambitious and add the water tower (bowl shaped) over the Blaine city hall on the way into rwy 9 using the VOR approach. It would have been nice to add the famous "mushroom tower" near the SW area (near highway 65 and 610) but that would have been a complicated model. When I practiced the VOR approach to rwy 9 the instructor asked me to lift my training hood and look down to see how close the top of that water tower was to emphasize the importance of setting altimeter pressure.

I did with e-z scenery add a fuel truck and some fencing where about Cirrus is now located.

I acquired my PPL and CPL (VFR restricted) and also some instrument training at KANE in the middle 1970's and it was my 'home' airport. My PPL trainer was next to the UofM/CAP hangar and my CPL instruction was at FIST aircraft about where Cirrus is. KANE sure has expanded in the NE area for hangars.

I did my changes in AFCAD (pre-ADE availability) and should refine them in ADE so the ILS especially is added to the approach layer. The VOR GEP should already be there. In ADE you can edit the ILS in approach view to match the real approach legs as published instead of using the default path.

That should keep you and ai away from the Shoreview antenna farm.

If you actually are from that area don't forget to get near the military historical aircraft storage. It is usually open on weekends.
