Why the GE90-115B and not the GE90-110B1

Featured Replies

From a perspective of operational differences I agree the difference between the two options is very small and only effects aircraft operation at takeoff if at all. If I reflect a little, I must say I got a bit carried away...

My main disagreement with Dave was with the idea we the customers should not provide feedback, even if some or most of it is ridiculous or redundant (ie. "Are their going to be digital checklists in the 777 thread).

To your other point I am surprised that crews don't have a even cursory knowledge of the engines. However, it does not really provide any benefit to know as it in no way effects aircraft operation. This is especially the case with the latest FADEC systems.

Sebastian,

there really is no reason for the crew to know the minute differences. Maybe they notice that there are different dials displayed, like EPR/N1, 2-spool/3-spool, or so, but even then, to paraphrase an Airbus pilot of a short-lived company which happened to operate (next to some Boeings) 2 A320s, one with CFM and one with IAE,

"I just put it to FLEX anyway".

E.g. pilots need not know much about engines, performance differences are handled by dispatch/performance computer/runway analysis book, if you confirm 95,5 potatoes or 1,42 potatoes makes no difference when FLEX is 35. Start sequence differences and similar stuff, that is FADEC controlled. What is there to know the difference for?

I will ask about the engines - very seriously doubt the 110s will be specifically modeled though - the 115s are what are on the 300ER and the freighter and it just makes sense to not spend a bunch of time modelling two different extremely similar engines.

This is just what I wanted to say.

I think this was mentioned at the time of reveal. The team at PMDG would start with the 115 engine mainly because it covered a better spread of models at the start. In turn it gets the 777 in our FSX quicker (I hope.). :)

Well I don't even know where the oil filter lies but I'll tell ya fix it faster, cuz I'm the one who flies!

Thanks for all the replies guys! I thought the differences were greater and originally thought that the 777-200LR had physically different engines. I didn't mean any trouble.
