May 9, 200422 yr I keep getting an out of memory error whenever FS tries to load. Also when I ackknowledge the out of memory error I will get a facillities.dll error in FS itself. This has been very frustrating. I've tried different ram, defragged till the cows come home, deleted everything I can think of that I don't need from my hard drive, deleted the Scenery.dat files so FS rebuilds the data base, deleted and rebuilt the FS 9 cfg file all to no avail. I'm about to resort to sacrificing small animals (just kidding) to get this dang thing to run FS 2004. I have no other problems with any other programs. I'm still running Win 98 but thats until I get my new FS computer, but it will be a few weeks before I get it so what do I in the interim???Edit: By the way this computer ran FS flawlessly until the last month or so. the only system change was a new video card. I swithed to an ATI 9600SE 128 meg from my old GForce 3Ti 64 meg.Brian
May 9, 200422 yr Hi Brian, this could be caused by a lot of things, but I would suspect some corrupted scenery file, specifically an Afcad or landclass file. Try and disable all those and see, if the problem disappears. If it does, then the fun starts by reacticating them one by one until you found the culprit...Cheers,Gosta.http://www.hifisim.com/images/as2betateam.jpg
May 9, 200422 yr Well, After a virgin reinstall of 2004 and just adding in things I know work (add ons that have been in use for almost a year) I seem to have a working Flight sim again. keep your fingers crossed as I add in things.Brian
May 10, 200422 yr Still getting intermittant repeats of the of of memory problem. I've removed all my AFCAD's and only running some 3rd party scenry that has been stable ever since I installed it almost a year ago. Since the problem is so intermittant I can't seem to track it down.Brian
May 10, 200422 yr Hi Brian,This may be of no help but I found that my printer was taking up too many resources even in standby mode. I got similar error messages that you got with it on. When I turned it off my flightsim had the resources it needed. Like I said, it may be of no help but thought I would throw it out anyway. :0)Fly safeDave
May 10, 200422 yr What worked for me (so far...): Chris' Clouds, Bluesphere, adios to McAfee, and FS Autostart. Not only does the sim run better, but also I can now download from AVSIM and hook up to VATSIM through FS Relay. Hope I didn't jinx the thing by telling about how well it works...
May 10, 200422 yr Hi Brian,Did u try the scenario of reinstalling your old graphics card. If, that works then, save the new one for your new system. When I replaced my old TNT2 card on my PIII 800 system with a GE 3 nVidea, nothing worked. So I still am running everything with the TNT2 card.Best of luck !Aarmin
May 10, 200422 yr No joy, put the old video card in and still get the out of memory message a couple of minutes after I take off on the default flight out of Seattle. I guess i'll try removing My PAI traffic next.Brian
May 10, 200422 yr Hi Brian,Sorry to hear you are having problems.I may be way of the mark here, but I remember a problem I was having a while back with running out of memory. Some how I had managed to install a sinlge landclass file in the addon scenery folder, of course we all know what happens when you put a landclass file in a scenery folder that has an associated texture folder, FS runs out of memory.sorry if you have already tried this soloution, but its all I can think offDan.
May 10, 200422 yr Author Here's something to try - AnalogX makes a free util which automatically recovers memory when it gets low called maxmem. You shouldn't need that, but...You deserve a break from all these hardware/FS problems!Good luck,sg [email protected] | 32gb RAM | EVGA GTX1080 8gb | Mostly P3Dv5 (also IL2:BoX, DCS, XP11)
May 10, 200422 yr I have Ram Idle which does the same thing.... the out of memory problem seems to involve the hard drive.Brian
May 10, 200422 yr Well 2004 won't even load at all now... I guess I'll have to forego FS 2004 untill I get my new rig. Glad Strike fighters still works so I can take out my frustrations blowing things up.Brian
May 10, 200422 yr Author I had a similar thing happen to me a few weeks back. First, I had some texture anomalies in FS9 - texture wouldn't load, etc. Then I had several crashes. The last crash was a hard crash, upon reboot, i was informed by WinXP that it had recovered from a serious error, I should run chkdsk - so I did. It found errors and fixed them all, then WinXP wouldn't load. Had to reformat. Since then, everything has been great, knock on something that prevents future problems...Best,sg [email protected] | 32gb RAM | EVGA GTX1080 8gb | Mostly P3Dv5 (also IL2:BoX, DCS, XP11)
