A video card question for Ryan

Recommended Posts

Ryan, I follwed your Nvidia inspector tutorial and I saw great improvements but I'm having a problem. When I'm running FSX the display looks like the exhaust of a jet engine. What could be the problem?

Do you mean everything is blurry? Could you post a pic?

Screen tearing is caused by a lack of Vsync. Which Nvidia driver are you using?

I downloaded and installed the latest driver and I'm still getting the tearing effect.

Woah. In topic of v-sync, does this necessarily mean your monitor sucks or what? I enabled it in League of Legends and I'm getting steady 60 FPS... Before, I had a cap on 60 but it kept going out of control to 119 then down to 50. Should I turn this on on FSX?

Fareed,

Can you post a screenshot of the issue you're seeing, I'm not sure I really understand. Vsync tearing appears on things like say the side posts in the cockpit, as you pan by them, you'll see a stair-stepping type effect because the GPU and monitor aren't in sync and you're seeing the display of partial frames. "The display looks like the exhaust of a jet engine" isn't a description I'd normally associate with Vsync tearing.

Ryan, I tried to get a screenshot but I couldn't, the best way to describe it is, clear lines across the screen.

If the lines don't show up in a screenshot that's a very good sign that you have a monitor or cable problem actually - a screenshot comes directly out of the GPU's framebuffer memory and you should see the problem in one if it's coming from the video card.

If you can't get a screenshot, you can just take a photo of the screen with a digital camera. The quality should be sufficient to show the problem.

I did some more testing and it seem to only happen in turns or while the sim is in motion with a high rate of change, if I pause the sim it stops. Another problem I'm having is building shadows flickering.

Fareed,

I think you have some system issues going on unfortunately - neither of these things are common or standard.
