June 2, 201214 yr Good morning flight simmers, has anybody experiences with the new UNNT Tolmachevo 2012 Scenery from Hawker, uploaded four days ago on avsim.su? I suffer from frequent crashes of my FS2004, running on an WinXP environment. (Suffering is the correct word, as it is a wonderful scenery.) Thinking at first it's a problem of the phototerrain and/or a missing phototexture, I did as written in the readme file. Nothing changed. I tried to substitute the phototerrain with a little landclass file to prevent trees from growing on runway 16/34 as I did successfully with some other phototerrains, but without success at UNNT. Now I have found out, that the crashes occur mostly when I use the FS2004 flight planner from within UNNT. But maybe that's my error, too. Perhaps it's just a problem of running out of RAM on my 32-bit system with this very complex scenery? Or is there a known cause of these crashes? By the way, almost every "FS2004 has caused a problem..." message contains another .dll file. It named fsconnect.dll, g2d.dll, fe.dll and ntdll.dll so far. Any comments are welcome. Thank you all. June 2, 201214 yr My experience with the new freeware UNNT scenery is very favourable......as you can see here : http://forum.avsim.net/topic/375528-novosibirsk-ovb-to-yekaterinburg-svx-in-hd/ It puts a lot of payware sceneries to shame. I did not use landclass but an exclude for the trees on the runway in the previous version. I used the FS Flightplanner in the video with no problems. http://forum.avsim.net/topic/375382-novosibirsk-ovb-to-yekaterinburg-svx-in-hd/ My FS Videos
June 2, 201214 yr Author Stunning! I deactivated my AI traffic, and didn't crash so far. So I should search for a AI plane texture to blame. Well that's a work which can last some days, as my AI traffic is in one huge 95 MByte file... Do you have the Polyot Il-96 in you AI traffic? No crash without in in one not representative try. "Unfortunately" I have to perform a trombone concert today so that I can't work on the problem today. See you later and thanks for now. Harald Geyer Gründer der Messerschmitt Freunde Dresden v. V.
June 3, 201214 yr No crashes here... I'm not sure what's new in 2012, but it remains one of the best ever sceneries so who's going looking?. Surprise! the Readme has some possibly valuable information: Flight Simulator quits to desktop while loading the scenery at a certain time of the day/season of the year. The problem occurs if Flight Simulator doesn't find all of the terrain textures that must be located in the“…FS9\scenery\world exture” folder. To solve the problem, re-extract the "scenery" root folder from the package again. Bushes and trees appear on the territory of the RWY 16/32.To solve the problem, make sure that the "UNNT-2012-terrain" folder is listed above the "UNNT-2012" in the Flight Simulator's Scenery Library. Good job this airport is pretty remote, as taxiing for a takeoff from Rwy 16 approaches the total flight time of some other cross-country trips... I suppose driving is not an option, here.
June 3, 201214 yr Author Thank you, WingZ, but I read the readme and followed the instructions long before my first post. Set the scenery priorities and installed all the textures new. But no improvement. Unfortunately, my suspect about Polyot IL-96 was not correct (It would have been a pity, because this well done airport was not half the fun without many exotic Russian, Kazakh, Tajik... airliners). Have no idea so far how to solve my problem. Harald Geyer Gründer der Messerschmitt Freunde Dresden v. V.
June 3, 201214 yr A great airport addon (as is the old airport of Severny UNCC nearby). Even more amazing given that it is freeware! No CTD problems for me with this but my only problem is what look like huge taxiway signs which appear on the ground just to the west of the airport! I try to ignore these as I approach but have no idea of where they have come from or how to get rid of them! Any help would be appreciated. Bill
June 3, 201214 yr Author Looks as a texture is named incorrect. I don't have this effect. The only idea I have is to re-install all textures or the entire scenery. Unfortunately, I don't know (and my skills are not sufficient to find it out) if the scenery uses generic textures (or, for instance Nova). Once I installed a scenery which came with a generic texture replacement, suddenly I read the name of the town "Issyk Kul" (in Kyrgyzstan) on every hangar all around the world - it could be such an effect in your sim. Meanwhile I deactivated the CIS Landclass from http://www.unnt.ru/meeee and it seems as if the CTDs have gone. Harald Geyer Gründer der Messerschmitt Freunde Dresden v. V.
June 4, 201214 yr Hi I installed UNNT 2012. No problems. It looks great and no any kind of Memory leak or CTD. I can confirm this.
June 4, 201214 yr Author CTD returned yesterday in the evening without this landclass. From all your post I took the conclusion, that one of my AI planes must have a bug. Strange enough, CTD occurs mostly if I quit flightsim: after confirming to quit, screen turns black, harddisk works a little time (half a minute) and then the well known message appears. Mostly ntdll.dll is the module which is namend to cause the CTD. H. Harald Geyer Gründer der Messerschmitt Freunde Dresden v. V.
June 4, 201214 yr Harald, Check your suspicious AI textures with ImageTool or Dxtbmp. You may have a 32-bit texture hidden somewhere, so just convert it into a DXT one, like the others you have. Simply measure the texture folders size first. If one is 4 or 5 MB istead of a usual 1-2 MB, you've got it! BTW check if you don't have any remnants of a previous version of UNNT, e.g. an AFCAD or a terrain file. Check the Scenery\World\Scenery folder where it could hide.
June 4, 201214 yr Author Thanks Rafal. Indeed, I use some 32-bit textures especially with CIS' An-24 and An-26. Some of them - for instance Angara Air An-24 - were only available in the net as 32-bit textures. I converted some of them into DXT some weeks ago with DXTBmp, but their appearance was so blurry that I decided to continue to use them as 32-bit textures. Furthermore, I visited UIII Irkutsk where you can find a lot of Angara Air An-24 and no problems occured, but the scenery is less complex than UNNT by far. I realized that my CTD problem is very similar to a problem that I posted some weeks ago regarding UTTT v2 2012 scenery of Igor Pan et. al.: http://forum.avsim.n...37#entry2367537 I will try to find an AI plane which flies both to UTTT and to UNNT. Some heavy cargo plane I think. At the same time I will search for old terrain files and/or Afcad files. After I deactivated Russian Landclass as described above, I had the feeling that the CTDs were less frequent than before. Maybe I have just overloaded my little PC which has a 2.9 GHz CPU, 4 MByte of RAM and WinXP 32-bit. A test with the 3GByte patch went completely wrong as it made more problems than it brought benefits. But at the other hand there are heavy elder sceneries as UAAA Almaty by Nikita Fomin with a lot of AI Traffic, where I experience framerates of not more than 15-20, but no CTD. In comparison framerates at UNNT are 27-30 (I have fps maxed at 30). Strange. In the meantime my monitor got a defect, so I have to make a break from testing and flightsimming ... June 5, 201214 yr Author Maybe I found the culprit, an incorrect entry in aircraft.cfg of RATS Il-76. I used the RATS package for Russian MChS; one of these Il-76 textures is designated to a model=TD2. Obviously I didn't pay attention to this and changed this to model=TD (like all other MChS Ilyushins). Maybe this has been the problem or could still be the problem with some Il-76 textures more. There are a lot of them at the places I like to fly to - of course at UTTT, too... Thanks to all of you for your advices. Bill, did you solve your problem with the taxiway sign? Harald Geyer Gründer der Messerschmitt Freunde Dresden v. V.
June 5, 201214 yr Author So now here is the solution - I hope so. Perhaps anybody is interested in, who owns a lot of CIS countries traffic: It seems as if the Belarusian AF pack for RATS Il-76 (filename in the library: il76_belarusian_air_force.zip) has a bug. I tried both of these textures assigned to MD and MD2 models. When I configured the .air file so that the aircraft got viewable in the Aircraft menue, FS2004 crashed mostly already when I wanted to choose another aircraft or left the menue. I don't have any idea what's the matter with these textures. I opened one of them with DXTBmp and saved it new. Will observe what happens - no crash from within the aircraft menue until now. But now "myahkie posadki" to all of you. Harald Geyer Gründer der Messerschmitt Freunde Dresden v. V.
June 5, 201214 yr "myahkie posadki" to all of you Lol, same to you, товарищ! I hope you've fixed it for good. By the way, I have not installed the 2012 version of UNNT. I do have the previous one though. Two questions to those of you who switched from one to the other: is it worth replacing and does AES work in the latter?
