Recommended Posts

Hi there:

I am sold on the i7-2700k; need your advice on GPU, motherboard and RAM.

Not budget limitations.

Thanks in advance!

If money is no factor then get this:

Asus P8Z77-V Deluxe Motherboard

EVGA GTX680

8GB DDR3 2133CL9

+1, and I would consider the same setup, but with the 3770K and 2666MHz RAM, as RAM speed seems to give a significant bump in performance.

Despite the things they say about the ivy bridges not hitting the same mark as sandy's, i would still go for an Ivy. They are find up to about 4.7GHz and after that they aren't great but with good cooling I think they can be handled.

Just keep waiting. There will always be something bigger and better with larger numbers.

If one waits indefinitely what should be the criteria for upgrading? How long should they wait?

If there were a product right around the corner that were known to transform FSX as we know it I would whole-heartedly agree. Since there isn't 't , now is as good a time as any.

If you have to have something now go with the SB.

If you can wait another 3 > 4 months go with the Ivy Bridge, it will give time to the driver on the GTX 680 series to mature, I'm also almost sure you'll see a 685 around the corner....all mobo manuf. will also be implemented new board with better bios for the card and for the mem...... http://www.guru3d.co...wer-on-display/ http://www.guru3d.co...as-40phase-vrm/

Here is some mem. comming soon to a theater near you... http://www.guru3d.co...st-ddr3-memory/

A piece of advise (that's what I always do), first thing to do is to buy the mobo and when picking a mobo make sure you'll use it to it's full capacity, here is what I mean by that, lets say you get a mobo (in the future) that can use DDR3 3000MHz like this one http://www.newegg.co...N82E16813157322 make sure you buy DDR3 3000MHz memory.

if you know you won't pay for that kind of mem. and you'll use some DDR3 2200MHz save yourself some $$ and buy a mobo like this one http://www.newegg.co...N82E16813131760 I mean why will you pay for something you won't use. To me it's like buying a Ferrari and dropping a 4 cylinder in it.....it will work but not as intended.

Let us know how your new built run FSX when ready.

Good luck.
