Radar Cunract and Fsdt ORD/KJFK Airports

Featured Replies

Recently I purchased ORD and JFK Airport addons from FsDreamTeam. Well detailed airports. Only problem, RC does not recognize ORD airport Runways. I got taxi instruction from RC, but I cannot get clearance for "Position and Hold" and " Cleared toTake Off" .

Is there any thing can be done, RC can recognize the runways?

Thanks

Ahmet Sanal

You must be using the latest version of makerwys from here:

http://forum.simflight.com/topic/66136-useful-additional-programs/

After installing start RC and run the scenery rebuild utility. If RC is not on the same PC as FS then first run makerwys in the FS folder directly before running the scenery rebuild in RC.

Of course you should be running the current FSUIPC from here:

http://forum.simflight.com/topic/66139-updated-modules/

This procedure must be used anytime you add scenery to FS. In addition FS must be started to reindex the scenery.cfg file and then shut down before running the RC Scenery Rebuild.

Make sure there are no duplicate afd (afcad type files) at higher priority than the scenery you are using. If so RC will get incorrect airport data.

To troubleshoot further, in your FS folder is a file called runway.txt which is a log created each time when maskerwys.exe is run. It is large so open it in word or wordpad. Search for KORD or KJFK. The last two sections for KORD constitute a section pair, the first being deletions and the second being the added fsdt data. Note each section has a path to the scenery folder which in each case in your setup should point to those added by fsdt. The only entries without a section pair will be the default airports and that path points to an APxxxxx.bgl file, the tile in FS where the default airport is stored.

The last section pair in runways.txt is the priority data that will be reported to RC.

If those last instances of KORD and KJFK don't point to the fsdt folders then there might be a scenery format problem.

One thing to consider is how far your aircraft is from the runway edge. Where hold shorts are on an angled entry taxiway, sometimes the aircraft is too far from the runway for RC to realize you are ready to go. In high cockpit aircraft also you get the perception that the aircraft is closer than it is sitting. Try pulling closer to the runway to see if it makes a difference.

Thank you for your immediate response with solution.. . I uninstalled the ORD addon. but I will go on install it again and implement your solutions.

All your recommendations for troubleshoot are completed:

1-I run latest 4.60 Makerunways

2-Fsdt ORD did appear in "Runways.tex" file

3-In "Scenery.cfg" files Area 139,Fsdt ORD is listed

4-I made test run with PMDG 737-600NGX at Fsdt KORD. Most of the rwys recognized by RC, except RWY27L and some other ,but I forgot which one was it.

I informed Fsdt Developer my findings " Radar Contact can read more Runways now, except RWY27L. It must be a reason"

He replied as follows" "This clears up it wasn't a scenery problem. It's a problem of the program that reads runways, that is not working porobably for some reason, you should probably report this to the developers."

Was fsdt KORD the last instance of the delete/add objects pair in runways.txt as indicated by the scenery path in the head of each section? I want to insure that no other airport file is taking priority.

To see a list of runways recognized by makerwys.exe in your FSX folder open the file r5.csv w ith word or wordpad. Search for KORD. Each runway has its own line there. The runways identifications have some extra numbers defined as follows:

Rwy is nnn for runway number, then 0, 1=L, 2=R, 3=C, 4=W (water)

Note that runways designated N, NE, etc are denoted by runway

numbers over 36, as follows:

I put the data for 27L in bold font above. Is that missing in r5.csv?

One more thought:

Where are you not seeing 27L? Is it in a preflight RC Controller tab? Is it in an in-flight RC menu selection? If the latter, does it take two menu lists to show all of the runways? There are 14 runways listed so you might have to select in the in-flight RC menu the number to get to the next page of runway offerings as a continuation of the list.

It is in " file r5.csv " but, numbers are not identical.

3a- RC will give departure RWY 27L and taxi instruction . When I am approaching to 27L, I wiil not get "Monitor tower" instruction. This gives clue to me. RC lost communication. I can approach and hold short to RWY27L. but there will not be any instuction from RC. I can go on RWY 27L and takeoff, RC will not contact any longer,

"Time you enjoyed wasting, was not wasted"

You have the fsdt deletions and you have the header for the fsdt additions which I assume are there.

The numbers I gave you was for the FS9 default just as a guide. I do not have FSX which might have slightly different coordinates as might have the FSDT KORD scenery. If that second section for FSDT KORD you started above has the additions, and it apparently does otherwise the airport would not be recognized, then you might be experiencing a problem with some airports relating to the hold short position. This frequently occurs where the hold short is on an taxiway that is not perpendicular but angled to the runway entry. RC in those cases might not see you close enough to see you are in position for runway entry.

Here is a test you can perform. Turn ai down to zero in FS. Just use the clear weather theme and leave any weather application off. Load as flight from KORD w ith your aircraft parked as usual, load the .pln into RC, and in the RC controller page for KORD select runway 27L or after you get the clearance delivery and contact ground request runway 27L. Taxi to it as usual and hold short at the usual position. Since ai is turned down there should be no conflicts and nothing on approach. If RC does not within a couple of minutes give you runway entry clearance move forward slowly and stop again. You must be stopped (brakes on) before you get entry clearance. Be aware also that if you are in a high cockpit forward nose position, you may seem closer to point then you really are. It is the same principle when turning in a large aircraft on a taxiway right angle entry you think you are going to get over the taxiway edge but you don't.

Looking at the 27L entry I see a perpendicular entry:

I also notice there are opposing entries across from each other. Sometimes with ai on the opposite holding, RC will see that as a conflict. For this test ai is off so that will not be a condition. (When ai is on try using the H2 entry if you are on that side and the opposing H3 entry has a waiting ai.)

So run this no ai test first and if necessary proceed closer to the runway edge and stopping, brakes on. (RC4 does not accept an expedited rolling entry to the runway for immediate take-off.). This will determine if it is a scenery issue.

If this fails perform the same test turning on the RC log before starting it and send it in to jd as indicated in the pinned topic.

Also when you perform this test when you get close if you don't get monitor tower then manually tune com1 to the tower frequency listed in the RC controller page (not your charts) to see if you here anything as you creep past the hold short point.

I assume you your RC and FS are on the same PC and you also pointed to the correct path for your version of FS during the scenery rebuild. This is extremely important if you have both FS9 and FSX installed. Some people get this swapped. You can also check that r5.csv in the FS folder and the r4.csv file in the RC4\data folder have the same date/time stamp and file size. (The r4.csv file in your FS folder is no longer used. RC copies r5.csv from your FS folder as pointed to by the path you entered to its own data folder as r4.csv and then calculates a4.csv from that.

The last symptoms you describe happens when there is a scenery mismatch between the FS visible scenery and the data pulled in from the afd type file (AP_KORD) in this case. In this situation your aircraft location does not match the RC data location and it can stall RC.

Are you using the FS9 or FSX version of KORD offered by FSDT. I notice KORD is at version 2 now adding another runway 9L/27R.

  • Author

Ron,

I have FSX and dont have FS9 .I made all the test as you recommended. Unfortunately, still RC not read the location where I am holding short to the rwy 27L. I tested with or with out Ai traffic. Also I tested stop/brake/wait /H2/H3 3entry.

I compared RC-Fsdt ORD and FAA ORD Airport G

Diagram.

Only discrepancy found was RC not listed

RWY 10/28. All other Six Rwys were listed

" I notice KORD is at version 2 now adding another runway 9L/27R."

FSX version, they updated this rwy with New Tower and Jetway.

I don't want to take much of your time. It looks like, it is a very isolated problem and I can use other available rwys.

Thanks for your great support.
