Ray Smith AFCAD appreciation

Recommended Posts

I thought yssy was untouched by ORBX. As such, the gates make no sense whatsoever in the default setup, even with FtX BLUE installed.

I loaded the afcad from avsim and BiNGO!! Real gates and parking! Highly recommended!

Really, aha I'll get it.

Most of the others are probably covered by orbx though

Yes, ORBX did not touch YSSY and they advised they would leave it aline but the surrounding scenery is covered by AU BLUE.

The afcad by Ray is wonderful, if you are familiar with YSSY you will find the gate numbers and locations are finally accurate.

I had a problem with a AFCAD at KDEN. Contacted Ray and he worked on fixing the problem for a couple of days. He really is a nice guy. Funny comments on our emails as I was going to bed he was just waking up.

Ray has been such a great contributor to our community I too salute his EXCELLENT work.

Years ago I asked Ray to make a small airport for me because i didnt know the first thing about it. He told me I would have more fun making them on my own and he was 100% right. I learned how to use a lot of great freeware that allowed me to make stock FSX airports look more like the real thing. He was also one who was always willing to give his time when i had questions. Thank you Ray.

I agree that Ray's stuff is awesome. If you see any of his or Jim Vile's stuff in the AVSIM library, you should download it. I was able to work with Ray and Jim for a brief time when I was on the ADE development team. Great bunch of guys who have a lot of knowledge and expertise on how FS9 and FSX airport design works.

I have to agree.

Also He provides very good support and insight to His work...

I had a question about an FSX Airport I fly out of almost every single time I am online...KJAX and He replied to my E-Mail within 24 hours with an full explanation, instructions, and an offer for help in also getting me started in making and updating my own files..

This man has done just as much if not more for the community than most developers!

I've put on YSSY and it works great.

For the others like the 2008 pack, is it generally safe to put them all on and put the folder low down in the scenery list?

Or do they conflict with custom scenery even if low down in the list?

Or do they all need individual attention and testing?

I'm trying to avoid a 1 by 1 then test situation, as I've done so much testing and tweaking I just want to fly now ;)

Well I went ahead and installed almost ALL of his FSX AFCAD files! Excepting the ones I have payware airports for.

So far seems no harm done to ORBX but it will probably take some time if I am going to see any parking or AI issues, I'm not going to test them all one by one.

The time it took me to install them all makes me really appreciate the years of work he's put in! Some of the files have a link to allow a paypal donation. I've used it to make a small donation but I do hope it still works because it's a few years old now.

Ray if you read this I hope you are making an FSX version of Bankstown Aiport.

Does anyone know if the FS2004 versions of AFCADs would work in FSX?

Cheers

May I add my appreciation for Ray's excellent AFCADs. They are frame-friendly, and they work well, especially the cross-wind ones.

Not many people know that it's a family affair. Ray's wife Jillian specialises in textures for helicopters. Look her up in the AVSIM library.
