what is PFE ?

What is it?

ProFlight 2000 Emulator (PFE) provides you with the means to use one of the all time favourite Flight Simulator ATC programs with FS2004 or FSX. Namely ProFlight 2000.

Yes, that's right, despite the fact that neither of these versions of Flight Simulator support Adventures PFE runs as a standalone program alongside these newer editions of Flight Simulator to emulate the adventure engine.

I'm hoping to find time in the next few days to do a video illustrating PFE. It's a bit of a nightmare as I use Fraps and each 4gb chunk has to be progressively sound synched and stitched together and coverted into a smaller format from avi. In other words a 15 minute recording can take most of the day!

Would be great if we could get a modern ATC program that is constantly being developed and that users could even contribute to. Most ATC programs are getting maybe one small update a year to simply fix some compatibility problems in order to keep selling.

That's why I don't use FRAPS, my HD would be gone now. I use GameCam for my videos. It's no longer supported, but it works pretty good. The only other drawback is it doesn't support dual audio devices. Here's my latest PFE video 3hr 20min long about 2.5GB raw in AVI processed down to 1.1GB WMV in Moviemaker.

Thanks

I fully support this opinion. It was for this very reason I purchased PRO ATC, because if you look back to a little over a year ago and indeed the earlier posts in this very topic, you will see that PRO ATC had the potential of being exactly that kind of program.

Such a shame.

For recording video clips, I use Bandicam which also includes a very easy to use desktop recorder. Very helpful for recording instructional videos. Works really well.

Regarding PFE, I've been tempted on several occasions. Can anyone point me to a user-friendly instructional video on how to set-up PFE, both installation and usage?

Thanks,

JJ

I don't think that's what he's thinking off. I think he wants a tutorial how to setup a flight using the external interface. I'd do one myself, but GameCam can't record the Windows Desktop

Thanks

Try Captain Sim official forums.

Or the bbs facebook page.

To the guy who runs the proatc forums, unfortunately the customer is king, he pays your rent and feeds your kids. The customer is frustrating, and probably scrap with computers, but he's the king. I know it's annoying, but that's customer service and most people who work in IT are cheap at it because they don't have social skills they have technical skills.

To Naif and Tom,

Many thanks for the links. I will review those and hopefully gain enough knowledge and confidence to make the move toward PFE.

Is there a way for PFE to read SID and STAR names and altitude restrictions directly from the navdata?

After using Vox ATC and ProAtc, the navdata import is a must for me.

No, but it does support SID and STAR by either allowing you to fly your SID and STAR or by you specifying the SID and STAR in the flight plan.
