Any way to have the PWR/AIR SRC locked at APU/EXT?

Featured Replies

As the topic suggests, is there any way I could lock the PWR/AIR SRC setting in FS2Crew config to lock at APU/EXT instead of always returning to APU?

Maybe lock is not the best choice of wording, guess all I would like is that this setting stays at whatever I set it to instead of always reverting back to APU.

Reason is I'm always using a combination of APU and GPU for the type of flights I do with Scandinavian, I start with the GPU connected and the FO starting the APU and then getting close to departure I ask the FO to put the APU on the bus and the ground crew to disconnect external power. Then at the destination prior to landing or at the latest before reaching the gate at the destination I must always remember to once again open FS2Crew config to reset the power source to APU/GPU since it for some reason always reverts back to only APU. This is to be able to ask the ground crew for external power when arriving at the gate and as soon as external power has been connected and put on the bus the APU can be shut down until it's time for next flight or leg when it is started again. That is another question I asked in another thread why it is that the FO won't start the APU as part of his preflight flow on a second leg in the same way he does on the first leg but my guess is that's due to the fact that I'm manually shutting the APU down during the shutdown flow...maybe the FO would "know" it has been shut down if I instead ask him to shut it down during the shutdown flow...? For this reason it would be great if the FO was programmed to always check and make sure the APU is running after the preflight flow if APU/GPU has been selected in the config regardless if it's the first flight.

Then...whenever I exit FSX the next time I start FSX the power source will be set to APU again and first thing I have to do is to set it to APU/GPU.

Sorry for the long-winded reply but hope you now understand what km getting at and maybe you could have a look at my flow/checklist available in AVSIM's file library since that will let you understand all the exact steps I perform on a normal flight.

It could be rather nice if one could decide, what configuration to start Fs2Crew with. I always use EXT/AC. And I have to choose that at every start. Maybe i could be done in some kind of *.ini file for Fs2Crew?

It's not good enough that it's remembering the last position, cause when landed and taxi to the gate, I set it to APU/Ext, and I do NOT want to start with that configuration.

Kind regards

Peter

Peter, may I ask what power source mode you start up with?

Of course you may Richard. I always start up with EXT/AC due to the restrictions in many airports not to use the APU until 5 min before start of the engines.

And I'm using your excellent document 'PMDG 737NGX & FS2Crew NGX Voice Edition Version 1.1 Normal Procedures' in a modified version so you do not start the APU until 5 min. before start of the engines.

Kind regards

Peter

Ok, not using the APU until close before takeoff for the reasons you describe is my goal too but I realize having the FO start the APU during preflight won't comply with that so I'll modify that procedure too from now on to make things more real.

Thanks for your kind words about my checklist, great to hear you find it useful

I've sent you a PM with a link to your document with my modifications.

I use the document for every flight both offline and online. I've made it fit on two A4 pages and laminated them. It's the only thing I use besides the checklists witch I also made fit on two A4 pages and laminated those too.

Kind regards

Peter

Just checked your modified document out and looks good!

If you want to please feel free to share it with others or better yet upload it to AVSIM's file library. I have no problem with that since my initial goal uploading the document myself was to share it with fellow NGX/FS2Crew pilots

Hi Peter (and everyone else of course )

Not sure if you already uploaded your version somewhere but anyways I did some changes to my own version now based on what we've discussed here and I did some other changes/improvements to it too. Just uploaded it to AVSIM so will let you all know when it's available and I'll also post the new link to it in the post in here where these kind of "user-made" stuff are listed.

Great Richard.

Looking forward to read it, when it's available.

Kind regards

Peter

I would like to support this "request". I'm used to using the GPU as much as possible as well. Maybe one additonal note, it takes quite a while for the Ground Crew to connect the GPU after arrival - I am not an expert, but it seems to be veeery long until i finally can shut down both engines and release the PAX.... Isn't it just a plug that has to be inserted?

kind regards, chris
