Thanks to all for those generous messages of support, which I really, really appreciate. The Legacy Owners Club is a great idea. When the paintkit is released, very soon I hope, maybe this will become a focus for some repaints and perhaps some forum tips about frame rates, managing the custom effects, etc etc.

 

On the piracy issue, the problem is one of "leakage". It doesn't matter how much complicated activation is used once a couple of pirated copies start leaking on to the 'net. Once they are in place, they then start the peer to peer process of seeding/downloading. Our only protection against this is that a few things we added to the package will prevent some of the features working unless it is a registered copy. Beyond this all we can do is hope that people play fair.

Happy to see you are supportive of the Owner's Club. Will still take me a bit of time to really make the page nice, but the goal is for sure to make to make it the central point for Legacy owners to share, etc.

 

On piracy: not sure what else I can add to the discussion. I appreciate your honesty in putting up real concrete numbers to show the problem. It's rare to see an FS developer including figures like that. But like several others said, real customers who want the RA quality should gladly adapt to any activation process required. But then again, maybe it becomes an issue at the developer's end, if activation monitoring is too complicated.

In the last few days we've been investigating a lot of piracy sites and, together with other evidence we've gathered, we reckon there are are currently at least 6000 pirate downloads of the Legacy, which is several thousand more than we have sold legally., and the number is growing.

Welcome to AVSIM, I think. I am sure they have excellent sources, but why do you ask such a thing? Kind of strange question for a first ever post on AVSIM, isn't it? An answer would just provide a great opportunity to advertise where to get a pirated copy.
