Sad sad news about our Carbon Cub

Featured Replies

since we've managed to scrabble six pages of conjecture out of a few sentences already, it should be mentioned that the only rational use of the word "version" in the announcement would be if the carbon cub is available in a separate version part from the one you get with the pack.

Maybe it is a "Preview version" that comes with Alaska, like the preview of the P-51 and Maule that are listed in the market. If you like it, then you can purchase the "Deluxe" version.

Indeed. That is why we are not happy.

Well I understand that, what I don't understand is the rock solid connection so many have made that this Cub is not going to have a cockpit just by the word "basic" in the promo text.

Clearly... MS Marketing is too overwhelmed trying to manage the enormous groundswell of excitement over the Surface to effectively market Flight at this time...

Call it empiric - so far everything dubbed "basic" didn't have a cockpit.

If this Cub actually should have a VC the marketing guy who put "basic" into the promo text definitely deserves to be fired on the spot for recklessly doing unnecessary harm to the company...

Just for reference on how the terms Basic and Deluxe are use.

So when MS says Basic, they mean no VC.

Could it be that the basic version has the basic panel? and there will be an option to upgrade it.

I've just been on cubcrafters site and see that one of their panel options allows for an iPad2 to be used.

Now that would be neat.

Or is that just wishful thinking?

I'd bet the latter, sorry.

PS: They released the Hawaiian Adventure Pack with the neat "deluxe" RV-6, a true marvel among Flight's planes. If they only superficially followed the various forums they must have realized that almost everyone expected another "deluxe" aircraft coming with the Alaska Package - and now this? What's that supposed to be? Looks as if they are on some self-destruction trip. Do they even faintly fathom the kind of damage they are doing to themselves/their business interests?

I can’t remember where, but they did say that basic would not have cockpits and deluxe would. I think the hangar is all the proof you need. They may still announce a deluxe aircraft Monday or Wednesday.

Or at least given life in solitary confinement with only an iPad to keep him company.

Previews are not flyable. They let you see the plane on your screen when somebody else is flying it.

Because, MS has used the term "basic aircraft" five times before this one. All five times, they used it to indicate that the aircraft had no cockpit.

Meanwhile, all four aircraft that have cockpits, even very simplified ones like the Icon are labelled by MS as "deluxe aircraft."

This is what those terms mean. There have been no exceptions to this classification by Microsoft.

The Icon has an equally simple panel and is labelled Deluxe by MS.

Too nice. Give him a Surface.

Blimey.

I've run the whole gamut of emotions just reading this thread! I started all angry; feelings of abandonment and depression crept over me while I envisaged more hopeless hours listening to sniffles and flying over empty volcano and ocean in the boring old dependable Maule, while I rejected AK, full of righteous indignation..

Then I thought, oh well, it's just a game. Went and took it out on some low-vis landing practice in PFJ...

I never had huge expectations of FLIGHT, so they haven't been badly dented. I'm not bothered about the Cub, pit or no pit. Bit too small and slow for me..The Maule is a bit to small and slow for me, but it'll do (I really like the VANs - be nice to be able to use it for short, fast clandestines)

I'm definitely interested in AK, as it has some awesome vistas, and the fact that it has SEAPLANE bases makes me think that we may get a SEAPLANE or two at some point...(but I'm not holding my breath)

I'm cautiously looking forward to some relevant and perhaps a bit more interesting and involved missions and challenges perhaps? I'll probably be mildy disappointed as I was with the missions and challenges so far, but I still think it's too early to write it off.

For those who staked it all on some serious wings with AK, well, it seems like they bought the farm, but...I agree with the people who are saying let's keep hanging on; fly the Maule around; perhaps do some short, sharp flights with the VAN's; look out the window, that kind of thing, and I expect there'll be some proper planes around soon-ish..I am pretty certain MSGS aren't planning to release NO more "deluxe" versions (the semantic debate over that and the word basic have been priceless alone :D )

One thing, though..it needs to be not expensive (notice I didn't say "cheap" there) I don't mind paying £12-20 for no "deluxe" bird and that much scenery, but I would object to paying more than that, unless, that is, it really does add some serious immersion in the form of proper missions - please no more cats and sick people all the time (it'll be fish, mail and stranded snowmobilers, just like in Flying Wild LOL)

Ho hum...

But if he is a programmer he needs something with a keyboard.

A keyboard. How... quaint.

OK, I see that. I haven't purchased any of those planes that say basic. Do they still say basic even if you purchase them? If so, then it would appear that basic= no cockpit. I can't imagine flying around Alaska taking off and landing on 600 foot dirt strips without a cockpit.

Enough already Bobsk!!!!

A keyboard. How... quaint.

I would take the Helicopter from that movie.

Probably not enough Ray (that works for me)... but I got ur back homey.

Always a good thing to RTM (Read the Manual for you non-abbreviation types):

"Remember to note the type of aircraft you’re purchasing before you buy. Basic model aircraft don’t feature cockpit interactivity or checklists, while Deluxe models include both." p.13 Downloading New Aircraft, Microsoft FLIGHT Flight Manual.

Or should I have not posted this so the debate could continue?
