Sad sad news about our Carbon Cub

Featured Replies

"You'll also receive a basic version of the Carbon Cub."

Personally I am still holding onto hope because of that one word "version". It could just be the way they chose to word it, but there are more definitive ways to say that "basic" will be the only version.

Nice try Oz...

We really need a facepalm smiley...

but there are more definitive ways to say that "basic" will be the only version

You're right... MS could have chosen to use the word "Deluxe"... in that case you would be downloading a version of the aircraft with a cockpit.

Nice try Oz...

Yep... you would think, "thus endeth the debate"... arguing... speculating... etc... must be more fun.

Probably not enough Ray (that works for me)... but I got ur back homey.

Always a good thing to RTM (Read the Manual for you non-abbreviation types):

"Remember to note the type of aircraft you’re purchasing before you buy. Basic model aircraft don’t feature cockpit interactivity or checklists, while Deluxe models include both." p.13 Downloading New Aircraft, Microsoft FLIGHT Flight Manual.

Or should I have not posted this so the debate could continue?

Why should fact interrupt a debate? :LMAO:

If they used the word "deluxe" there wouldn't be 7 pages complaining about the no-cockpit basic version. The Cub that comes with AK does not have a cockpit, that is fine... I am just hoping that the word "version" means that there is a "version" that will have a cockpit.

I didn't want the Cub at first, then it kinda grew on me and I thought it would be fun. Then I find out that it won't have a cockpit and now I am back to not wanting it.. This game has more emotional twists and turns than a teenage love triangle.

I was in the same boat. I am not too dissapointed about the Cub. I am hoping for a cargo carrier that can handle more than the Maule.

They obviously have been working on the Alaska DLC for a while - it will be interesting to see what is available with it upon release... I am still remaining hopeful.

I am too (cautiously hopeful), there has got to be some sort of larger amphib in the works, why have 130+ seaplane bases if the only plane that can use them is the Audi.... I mean Icon A5?

If they give something that has more cargo capacity, something that was meant to carry cargo, I will forget about the Cub.

...

Apart from these considerations I'd see the Alaska release as seriously "broken" if the only A/C to be released with it would be a VC-less Carbon Cub. With the Icon remaining the only amphibian for those 150+ seaplane bases for the time being? The Maule as the only half-way serious cargo hauler for how many thousands of square miles? C'mon devs, that must be some kind of silly joke? You better got some true ace up your sleeve (insert favorite heavy bush-plane, amphibian or airliner here) or your customers are going to have you for breakfast (at least verbally)...

It's like being given the opportunity to drive the Grand Prix of Monaco... and at the last minute they hand you a skateboard. (But at least it has way cool paint job!)

Sure, the Maule, RV-6 and Icon are nice planes, but flying ginormous distances with only those to choose from will get pretty old pretty fast. We need something with a lot more "oompf" for something the size of Alaska.

There's no place like this place, so this must be the place.

Just how do all of you know there are no deluxe aircraft coming as DLC along with the release of Alaska or soon after?

We only know what the developers are telling us.

My guess is that there will be deluxe aircraft suitable for flying in Alaska released as DLC. But what and when who knows.

The mystery is why the developers are not more open. If only we had more information there would be a lot less speculation and angst.

Or is that all part of the marketing plan?

I only go away from my computer for one day, and that's what I get to discover when I come back...

For me, it's pretty simple: either MS releases an aircraft with VC (a paid DLC on the side, fine) or I guess I'll have to wait again, which is starting to remind me of the constant disappointment that IL2 Cliffs of Dover has been in this regard.

Anyway, as someone else said before in this topic, it's amazing how this PR strategy has managed to sink all the new enthusiasm created by the trackIR update and the Alaska DLC getting closer. I could clearly see it in other forums, and I had finally convinced my friends to give Flight a go, but now all of this is compromised.

MS clearly needs to make a PR effort there. All they need is something as simple as "Flight users need not worry, we will release more Deluxe aircrafts in the future", because they haven't yet provided a simple reassuring statement as this one even though they show signs of being aware of the growing discontent with the "basic" warbirds.

I had my hopes high, but I was hoping one Deluxe plane with Alaska, and who knows, a deluxe helicopter as DLC on the side, but I can't see a helo coming anytime soon now... I guess I might invest in X-Plane 10 instead of Flight in the end..

The climb to St Devote on a skateboard wouldn't be much fun.

I suspect that yes, it is part of the marketing plan. The problem is that it becomes tedious. Even the most 'secretive' of 3PDs let you know what's coming up to some degree. At least that causes generally postive speculation, rather than negative.

Mike Dryden

most 3pd's aren't immediately met with irrational hostility any time they announce something either. The fact is is that Flight is not FS11. When there's a certain hostile vocal crowd that will not accept anything short of FS11, you can't make announcements without it becoming a farce, so you just get on with releasing the product without fanfare and hope you're product sells well to your fans. Lets say for example that the flight team IS working on some cool aircraft that they know aren't going to be ready in time for the Alaska release. all they're going to say is the basics of the release, they're not going to tell you they're working on a Beaver, cause then they're just going to get posts from people who wanted a c185 instead. If they tell you they are working on weather, they'll just get ragged on because there's no mention of AI and ATC. if I was MS at this point I wouldn't even make the posts they are making, just release product. and build the following gradually.

I disagree with the above. There is a reason behind stating the plans of a project; to build hype. That is why gaming magazines report on upcoming titles, sometimes more than a year in advance. It let's you know, "Hey, we are working on this. If you are interested, save some cash for it." It also builds demand.

Just because some naysayers may not like what you are making, it is not a reason to close the doors and not allow any information out. I do not think that Flight has been met with "irrational hostility", perhaps in the beginning, however since then I think most people have been rather patient the last four months, despite the complete lack of substantive DLC.

Not using marketing as a means of marketing, is not marketing at all. If people are confident in the stability and direction of your product they are more likely to invest in it. Right now it is like buying a car and not being certain parts will be available down the road when you need them.

Todd Fleck

Like I've said, I have no doubt there will be a deluxe DLC aircraft debuting with Alaska...

...I'm just irritated to have a cockpitless POS forced on me for having bought Alaska. Maybe there will be a useful version of the Cub, also. But if this plane is available in both versions, it will be the first time MS has done that.

I can say one thing for certain... I do have some information about content in Alaska that requires use of a cockpit-equipped aircraft decked out with more than just a simple panel. Just that knowledge alone is helping me keep some confidence in what's to come, so I'll share that as the only bit of encouragement I can offer. But in good faith, that's really all I can say about it.
