cracked my cpu, need help fast

Recommended Posts

Ok so i was doing some work to my comp. I had my phenom ii 965BE overclocked to

3.8 stable. Well my son was running around and bumped the tower and somehow the cpu came loose and now has a crack in it. The comp will still boot to windows but blue screens each time. Temps are wild. I need to buy a new cpu but cant decide on what to get. I know the intel is better but i am sticking with amd as i am already set up for it. So what cpu should i go with? I would like to OC and get into the 4GHz range. My system specs should be in my sig. Thanks in advance.

Just kidding.........

Make sure your cooler will do the job as this is a 8 core CPU.

If you got some spare change get yourself a better GPU as this will be your bottleneck after overclocking this CPU, got the 2133MHz rams?

I would recommend another Phenom II X4

Getting an 8 core bulldozer is wasting 4 cores & $100 IMHO

If he is doing some serious multireaded stuff, it might be helpful to have eight. But like you said, (for normal usage), the bulldozer is a complete waste. Although, I am quite excited to see how the new pile driver chips turn out.

Prior to current SB, I had a AMD 970 BE and it would OC to 3.9 to 4.0 stable and worked fairly well. Not as good as I 2600 of course.
