July 31, 201213 yr My virtual PMDG 777 will have beds in the back too. In fact, mine has a bed right in the cockpit. Trent Hopkinson Mine will have a king size bed in the back (actually in the room next door to the "flight deck", with my beautiful wife sleeping in it, and often saying things like "just turn the dam computer off and come to bed". To quickly add to the long haul/siting there for long hours staring at a screen debate: I'm a grad student who also works full time, so having lots of time to just sit and fly is not an option. I often put a long haul flight on, and then do work on the laptop or read one of the countless books or articles I always seem to have on the go. Its nice to have the option to do those long hauls, so I can get some real world work done while also doing the sim thing, which I enjoy. Thats also why it will be sweet to have the 777. Its my favorite long haul bird, and it will be nice to have a plane with the level of detail or better then the NGX. I do fly the NGX a bunch, but only when I have an hour or two to do a nice little hop somewhere that doesn't require me paying attention to the real world for a bit. So to end my two cents, I have no issues with guys who put on a long haul flight and then go about their lives, tending to work and family, periodically checking in on their bird every now and then. I do this quite often, because thats what life is like for those of us who have families and responsibilities. We have to be willing to divide our time and attention, or we would never accomplish anything. The fact is, I doubt anyone out there truly sits in front of their computer for those long 8 - 12 + hr flights and with undivided attention, monitors their virtual progress to wherever they are going. In this day and age of over-stimulation, I would bet huge money in Vegas that most people, in fact I would say darn near close to 100% of them, do other things while on the long haul routes. The real question is are they willing to admit it and be honest about it, or do they hope we just buy into the BS they put out when they tell us otherwise. Cheers John E.
July 31, 201213 yr Hehe, my VA has something exactly like that so they know we don't go to the water park during those long hauls, lol Ha, I recall many VAs have these type of things. You're required to send a POSREP or similar every X minutes so they know you're there. It's not very hard to simulate a keystroke in C++ and set the program on a timer to work around that. Dev Singh
July 31, 201213 yr Interesting, someone asking about a taxi camera turned into people telling each other they have no lives, they're or aren't professional - on the 777 forum. Got to love this place! :LMAO: - Luke Pabari
August 2, 201213 yr We rather sit for 12 hours and watch a flight, simultaneously developing blood clots. Because its a tad bit more realistic? This is why we can't have nice things
August 12, 201213 yr I myself fall in to the camp of letting the aircraft fly on its own. Granted I do not leave it while I say go to work. I will put the NGX up in the air though, and leave the sound turned up in case there are any alarms that pop up. A lot of times with chores to do around the house and such it is just the way things are. While I am around for the take off, climb, descent, and approach I usually leave it be in cruise. I think this pilot keep awake feature would be cool to have even though I do not sit at the computer the entire time. I do periodically check on the aircraft to make sure things are not creeping up out of limits. I definately have to agree with Ryan that the whole FSX camera to LCD screen is not easy. Just trying to work on things of that nature has been pretty hard. Considering it has taken VRS this long to get it right would also suggest it is no easy task for them either. While it would be cool for PMDG to have this in the 777 I am not going to be disappointed if it is not. Knowing what perfectionists they are though, and comments from the staff of the 777 containing things we have never seen in FSX before makes me think they have again done the impossible. Just need to sit tight and see what is in it. I bet if you bought the Flight Manual set that will be a good indication of what is/isn't in the bird. As my NGX Chief Pilot's set was spot on. August 12, 201213 yr It gives you a message that says pilot respond every so often and the pilot must press some button to make it go away to tell it he is awake, if not it sounds this hellatiouse alarm. Sounds like an FS version of a wife or girlfriend. August 15, 201213 yr I wouldn't want this as my VA already has enough AFK checks on the long hauls :P, it would be annoying to cancel out the plane's AFK checks as well as my VA's AFK checks, I wouldn't get enough time to make a cup of tea! http://www.phoenixva.org PVA1103 Robert Stevens
