ILS Approach Santos Dumont - Rio de Janeiro

Recommended Posts

Hello virtual pilots!

Did someone already tried on FSX the ILS approach into Santos Dumont - Rio de Janeiro? So far was not able to land on the runway 20R or 20L, it seems that the ILS frequency 111.10 is not alined with the runway. Any input from you guys?

Regards, Johannes

Have you got your course set and the "APP" button and A/P engaged?

It isn't an ILS approach, it's just a LOC, no G/S. So you won't be able to do an auto land.

And if you really want a hand flying challenge, try the right base to final approach/landing to runway 02R.

Thanks for all your immediate replies, you guys must have the flying bug! Understand that the LOC is offset and no autolanding possible. Also tried it from the Int. Airport Galeão taking off in a Cessana, just to check the LOC. I know that the 02 approach is a handful but will try it.

Thanks again, Johannes

In theory, we now have a "GPS ILS" approach to SBRJ. New RNP approaches were made for runways 02R and 20L. The final approach path is a curve, just like a visual traffic pattern would be, but the minimums are 300ft and can be flown by any RNP-capable aircraft. These approaches are RNP 0,1 (0,1nm tolerance for lateral deviation) and use radius-to-fix to make airplanes turn at a specific radius between two fixes, instead of flying a straight line between them. It's almost an ILS CAT I approach, but curved. You can see the approach plates here and here.

Is there new scenery for this area? I thought I saw it but maybe it was a preview?

What is this at 03:45 til 03:50 passing the aircraft on the right hand side really fast?

Bird flocks (vultures?). See at 4:00.

probably a departing traffic from Galeão International Airport, just taken off from runway 10 with right turn inbound to São Paulo terminal or inbound to Brazil south region...

It's a vulture. The pilot comments: "look, there is a bird there"... Some seconds after: "there's a flock right in front, can you see?" Then he jokes they ended with the birds fun and inform the tower about "many birds on approach"
