Flight Alaska: Lake Clark Pass

Recommended Posts

Guest

I just finished a flight from Nikolai Creek to Port Alsworth, following the Lake Clark Pass, as suggested by RoboRay. Time was somewhere around 6.30 AM and the season was spring: it's the best season for Alaska because then you get to see every season in one day! While I was flying I thought that this pass and this flight alone was worth the $ 15,- spend on Alaska. As usual with flightsims screenshots don't do the game any justice... Seeing it in motion was so much better then seeing the screenshots afterwards. But I'll post them anyway.

I used Plan-G to plan the flight and GMap to make sure I was following the right valleys. Specially in the beginning I certainly would have takes some wrong turns if it hadn't been for GMap!

Here is how it GMap looked during flight. The heading of the plane is wrong: probably a little bug in GMap.

And here are a few shots of the actual flight. Again, you should see it in motion...

I'm going to have to get FRAPS going and do these passes again to get video, then edit it down to the highlights.

I too took up RoboRay’s suggestion on the Nikolai Creek to Port Alsworth scenic trip. I agree that the spring season was a nice tip. All in all a very enjoyable flight. Only one minor flaw on my part...I landed at the wrong airport! Turns out that the parallel gravel runway is the separate airport Wilder/Natwick. No problem though, I just taxied down the road to Port Alsworth.

Just finished it myself, very nice trip. Even with my Zero navigation knowledge I drew a line using skyvector.com and the cheepo Flight map for spot checking my position. From there I flew to Sparrevohn.
