FS9 FSX In The Same Drive?

I just had a minor upgrade and would like to put it on a test by running a plain FSX without complex addons (don't have them anyway). Would it be okay to install FSX side by side with my lovely FS9? Will there be any registry issues or such? I could just give it a try but I just finished installing FS9 and Windows 7 yesterday after making hardware changes.

it works fine, i have Win7 64bit and fs9/fsx on same HD :good:

No problems here either, on Win7 64bit. Just don't install either to your programs x86 folder , keep them on your route drive to avoid any hassles with permissions.

Please note that if you decide to uninstall FSX from a computer that has FS9 on it, the FSX uninstaller will destroy the registry entries for FS9 on it's way out the door.

 

This can be easily fixed with the Flight1 tool, but you should be aware of it.

Thanks Joe. I will do that. Sometimes the "/" causes troubles, it should be "Program Files/Microsoft Games/Flight Simulator 9" instead of "Program Files/Microsoft Games/Flight Simulator 9/". This causes errors when installing PMDG liveries exe and other installers, I also had error type; 34 when updating fs9 9.1. However this can be easily fixed with reboot, flight1 reg tool doesn't help much sometimes.

Well...

 

I have always installed both FSX and FS 2004 in "Program Files", (with full Administrator rights), on a single Hard Drive, using Windows 7 Home Edition 32bit/Windows XP Pro, 32bit, with no problems at all, for many years.

In fact, all my programs are installed to "Program Files" to enable Windows Un-installer to be used in the Windows Control Panel; (add/remove programs).

Useful for any programs that don't include their own un-installer in the program.

P.S. I always use the 32bit version of Windows to enable all my dozens of; "older" programs to install and run successfully.

I think the uninstall feature in control panel will also work even though you install fs9/fsx in the different drive from where your OS is, that does for me, I always create a folder and its subs as if it were in default C: drive without "x86".

 

Paul I wonder if you often experience OOM with tons of addons being loaded using 32bit.

...Only when I need to locate my slippers/spectacles/tea-bags first thing in the morning... ...

 

..but in my computer?....only on very rare occasions (2.5 GB RAM)...and a re-start of the computer before loading the Flight Sim, etc, always prevents that; "OOM problem"... :Party: ...!

 

32bit... :Smug: ...64bits= too many bits to cope with.. :crazy: ...!

 

My Sinclair Spectrum 48k/Commodore C64 was/is quite happy with 8bits... :Love: ...!
