July 11, 201213 yr Author Do you mind sharing more details? What was exactly the order of install the last time? Thanks, Dirk. Install order I did is as follows: 1. Un-install REX Essentials 2. Run registry cleaner 3. Delete all remaining REX folders 4. Un-install GEX 5. Un-install UTX 6. Un-install FSX 7. Run registry cleaner 8. Delete FSX folder under ProgramFiles(x86) Once that was done, system was rebooted and the install process was: 1. Install FSX 2. Install FSX Acceleration 3. Run FSX 4. Exit FSX 5. Install UTX 6. Install UTX update to 1.4 (Retail version downloaded was 1.2b) 7. Reboot 8. Install UTX Acceleration update 9. Run UTX setup and disable all waterclasses 10. Run FSX 11. Quit FSX 12. Install GEX 13. Install GEX 1.95 update 14. Reboot 15. Run FSX 16. Quit FSX 16. Run REX Essentials install 17. Reboot (this one was probably not needed but I did it anyway) 18. Run REX Essentials and configure as per manual 19. Check if everything works as expected 20. Install all my airplanes (RealAir Turbine Duke first ) All installtion/updates were run using "run as administrator" I have no clue if that is the correct procedure or not but that is what worked for me. July 11, 201213 yr I have the Ft. Lauderdale Intl airport by FSDT which I highly recommend. Ah..I forgot about that one. Yeah. And sorry for hijacking the OP's thread. :) But I thought it was ok since he got his issues solved. Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter
July 11, 201213 yr What do you think of this Ray? http://www.simflight...for-fsx-review/ It looks good to me. I like the expanded coverage area. Just Flight sells this under they banner also. The other one is just the airport by LatinVFR. I would probably go for the JF expanded coverage myself. If you fly airliners and like KMiA then maybe the LatinVFR package. I spend a bit of rw flying time between Miami and Ft. Lauderdale. It is a great flying area with lots of airports along the coast. Ray When Pigs Fly . Ray Marshall .

July 11, 201213 yr Hi Ray, I have a question on Sim Savy. If I get the whole US on their HD. How hard would it be for me to selectively install areas? Is there a way to figure out which files to copy over for a region or area? For e.g. If I install their entire scenery the whole of US, my load time for FSX would be insane I would think. I currently have the whole of (almost) CA from Mega scenery earth but I have only copied over some of them for FSX. Mega scenery earth has divided up the area by numbers and the folders are named by these numbers so its easy to pick to which ones to install. Manny Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter

With a little digging you can divide up any state to about 50 or so pieces. I have pieces of four states that I have grouped the files so I don't have to load all 4 full states as I seldom fly in North MS, North Al or South FL. If I do, I just add a check mark for that state or states and they load up. I divided up Texas that way also. Texas is about the size of 5 states and I seldom fly in West or South Texas but I do fly in Central, East and North Texas. The Sim-Savvy files are huge, like bigger than you can imagine. I think you need close to 2 TB for all 50 states. I have a 500 GB and a 750 GB USB3.0 drives and a couple of 750 GB USB 2.0 drives. My two 2-TB drives are full of other stuff. Ray The reason is in South MS where I live, I am about equal distance from New Orleans, Mobile, Jackson. I added the Panhandle of Florida because there are so many nice airports along the line from Mobile to Jacksonville. When Pigs Fly . Ray Marshall .
July 11, 201213 yr Thanks Ray... I may have to consider purchsing the sim savy scenery then. And If I can break up states into areas by some logic or file naming convention then I should be ok. They don't have a map of each state with a location number like Megaearth has.... so I am still not exactly sure how you could figure out area and file names without tiral and error Photoreal America 1 Meter (derived from 50cm aerials) High Resolution Option $299 The product includes a 2TB USB hard drive ALL states are NOW available in 1 meter (50cm source aerials) scenery! And flightsimdesigns.com/ site is down it looks like, Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter

July 12, 201213 yr Thanks Ray. Is there a map of Florida for those A1 to C8 which county each one is? or does it start at the pan handle and go down south ...a pattern of sort to pick say the Miami area for e.g would be B6? or thereabouts? Assuming I want to install only the Miami area from the FL file set. Manny Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter

I found the hotel where my wife and stayed for our honymoon as well as bunch of landmarks I know well like the American Airlines Arena, Adrian Arsht Center, and Bayfront Park. Assuming I want to install only the Miami area from the FL file set. Manny For Sim-Savvy, I think all states start in the NW corner and the file names increase L - R and N - S. He (Larry) also has a dozen or so extra files for bumps and turns and fixes for each state. It is easy to figure out the naming convention. Load a few grouped bgls and use the F12 key and zoom out. You can see very quickly which areas are photoscenery and which are default scenery. Texas was broken into 5 major areas due to the size but I did not have any trouble picking up on the naming scheme. Most bgls are about the size of a typical county, if there is such a thing. Mostly they are just squares or rectangles. I guess it depends on how the mapping was originally set up from the aircraft or whatever they used for the source files. A decent pc should handle 5 or 6 normal sized states at any time with no impact on performance. Once loaded in the FSX global scenery library it is just a matter of a check mark in the global library to load or unload a state for a given flight. Should you get the Sim_savvy and have any trouble just PM me and I will help you work it out. I think it is very straight forward. One caution, the water masking sucks for most lakes and sounds. I hate the looks of the Mississippi Sound and the lower part of Louisiana but all the other good stuff outweights the water and islands. Ray The screenshots show how easy it is to see what is loaded. The first one shows the Florida Panhandle bgls you asked about. You can see that each of the four states have a slightly different color or texture so you can see state lines as such. The second is East Texas. When Pigs Fly . Ray Marshall .
