Flying the head up dispay (HGS) for the first tme

Nice landing. Headwind? Just wanted to say that Scandinavian airlines has the HGS installed.

Ships are cooler that you think.

When I am setup for an ILS landing, I have a question about the AIII mode on the HGS.

I will be hand flying the approach, but will have all the ILS dialed in to see where to go on the HGS. A few times through the approach the HSG will switch from guiding me where to go and switch to "NO AIII". When it does this, I have no idea where to go....

What causes this?

Thanks!

When I see that, it's usually cuz I went high or low from the glideslope..

But as I recall, if you see NO AIII, everything else should still be working.

So I'm not sure why you would lose your indications of where to go..

IE: you should still have the ILS indications, and I believe the vector trend indications

should still be working. The only thing that should be changing would be the

AIII or NO AIII display. Or I think anyway. :/ Once I'm "good" for AIII, I usually don't

lose it, even if I'm going off the glideslope a tad.

Humm.. I got one video like that.. VIs is danged near zero.. Flew it in the 600 BBJ I run..

I wanted to see how easy or hard it was to land with near zero vis using the HGS..

Turned out to be pretty danged easy..

I almost always use the HGS.. I play Southwest buoy most of the time, and I use one in

my BBJ also.. I'm spoiled on the thing. The only recent flight I have done where I didn't

use the HGS was an approach and landing at Paro I made a video of a while back.. :/

Ah yes the old game of chase the circle!

When I was first trying out the HGS I setup a flight in the FMS from Boeing Field to Moses lake and I had flew the whole thing by chasing the circle, was so easy and perfect! After that I used the HGS for all my approaches and most of my departures, however.....

I rarely use it anymore, I always get the feeling I will get soft using it too much so I normally hand fly my approaches and departures directly off instruments. Recently approaching KJFK ATC gave me a Visual rwy 13R approach in less than Ideal visibility (stupid as the other ILS runway were being functioning and being used but oh well) and I felt it was a perfect time to get HGS assistance, worked out great.
