Question related to installing Corsair water cooler- fan connections

Featured Replies

I am finally getting around to installing my Corsair H60 water cooler into a P8/P76 ASUS system. I note that the CPU fan connector on the mobo has 4 pins, but the pump connector on the heat exchanger (that replaces the CPU fan and mounts onto the CPU) only has 3 pins. My understanding is that a 4-pin connection has the ability to control the speed as well as power the device. is this going to be a concern when installing the water cooler?

I also note that the radiator fan has a 4-pin connector. I will be able to connect this to one of the chassis fan connections that has a 4-pin socket on the mono, so that part of the electrical hookup should work fine.

Thanks for any advice, Bruce.

Edit: I think I have solved this- it looks like the radiator fan connector goes to the CPU fan header, not the pump power, and the pump power goes to any 3-pin connector (which I spume means the pump runs at the same speed regardless of the heat that is being moved by the system?)- can anyone please conform that?

Thanks, Bruce.

Bruce,

Your edit is correct. You want the pump spinning at constant rpm (should be around 1400). You want the rad fan rpm to vary with the cpu usage.
