Cub Deluxe almost on sale.

Recommended Posts

Someone mentioned "the Cub is a funny plane". Certainly it is not rated as a cargo plane. It could not even pick up a hunter with his dressed out deer or moose. Delivering a fisherman to a gravel river bank is what it can do. Alaskans use it for small jobs, landing and taking off from small runways. Having said that, I have enjoyed flying the Standard Cub, and I will definitely buy the Delux version with the cockpit.

A plane to me, is something that accomplishes what I need it to do, is something I can afford to operate, and is fun to fly.

To me, an aircraft-mounted GPS should help me find airports, or at least navigate. The Icon-ish one doesn't do that, except for the largest ones (that I can see from far outside its range anyway). If it had a waypoint function or the ability to identify small out-of-the-way airports, that would be useful to me.

Yes, I "get it" that many here have expressed their desire for a working GPS built in to at least some of the planes with an actual VC. My point was/is that the moving map is not totally useless. It doesn't provide true GPS functionality (or any GPS functionality, for that matter), other than a terrain tracking device. But in Alaska, having the moving map in the Icon and apparently in the Carbon Cub will be useful in helping fly through the valleys and around the mountains if you're not using GMap/PlanG or another flight planner. It's not a substitute for a GPS unit of course, but helpful nonetheless. I will say this again though; if all it is ever going to be is a terrain tracking device it does need the ability to adjust/change the range added to it. Hopefully that will be added in a future update.

GMap for Android!? Well since I lost my phone last week (Windows Phone 7) I guess I know what OS I'll have on my new phone B)

They also have versions for iPhone.

Guess we'll have to wait until next week for the Cub cockpit. No big deal because I have a lot of jobs to fly around anyway.

I never used the Cub for pax jobs, specially if there are 3 or 4 pax to transport, but I see that the Cub is indeed available for such jobs (?). I'll find out latter today how the Cub feels when loaded with 5 on board plus fuel.... I guess a real Cub wouldn't leave the rw, but one never knows....

Maybe it has the power to eventually climb on a long rwy, but i doubt you could fit 5 ppl without 'reorganising' their limbs so you can use all the space available :t0106:

You can load 4 passengers and enough fuel for over 100 miles without going overweight in the Carbon Cub. Performance isn't degraded that much.

Not overweight, sure. Not overvolume, not so much.

This is the available seating in a Carbon Cub...

...and the one up front is for the pilot.

If they are real friendly or you aren't loading anything behind the passenger seat, you may jam a couple of people in behind the pilot. But for four PAX, I guess you've got passengers strapped down on top of the fuselage, or under the belly. Just%20Kidding.gif

It is pretty much the same in a real cub, 2 seats for pilot and one passenger, and no weight problems with either.

My flying club has to replace our Remo 400 for towing gliders. We had to choose between the Carbon Cub and the Dynamics. The Carbon Cub didn't made it, because the view outside is limited due to the high wings. Now we will buy the Dynamics, which I would also like to see in Flight, esp. with retractable gear. For towing gliders in high traffic the view outside, when turning around is essential. Too bad I will never fly a Carbon Cub in RL, at least not in the near future.

Yeah. I've seen two passengers in a SuperCub plus the pilot, and it will fly fine that way. It's just a tight fit.

But there's no way you're getting 5 people total in one.

I believe that would be classified as overloaded, and the pilot would be in a world of hurt if something went wrong.
