July 22, 201213 yr Hi there, I've tried everything I can think of. I have a new laptop with the Nvidia 630M with optimus Technology along with an integrated Intel HD4000. The software is being forced to use the Nvidia 630M in the Nvidia control panel and I've also even tried to select the Nvidia when right clicking on FSX to launch it but since I installed Acceleration which has the 2nd patch, it seems to always revert to the Intel Integrated card no matter what I do. It used to say in the graphics settings Nvidia 630M before I installed Acceleration and now it just says Intel Integrated... Any ideas on how to fix this? I've tried rebuilding the fsx.cfg by deleting it with no luck.
July 22, 201213 yr You'll need to disable the on-board graphics. Here's a link for how it's done with an HP laptop - http://www.wikihow.com/Disable-the-Onboard-Graphics-and-Install-a-New-Graphics-Card-in-Your-HP-Pavilion-6630. Best regards, Jim

July 22, 201213 yr Author Thanks for the info Jim but it's not like that at all unfortunately. On the new laptops what they've done is provide an on-board video chip like the NVidia 630M and then the graphics processor right on the main CPU called the Integrated 4000HD. NVidia uses what they call Optimus technology to let the computer switch between the two graphic accelerators based on the needs of the software and when it's trying to save battery power by using the on-board chip inside the CPU. You can set programs to use which one you want or even force it via a right click menu on the exe but for whatever reason it's not working with FSX. Still getting 37fps at O-Hare with default scenery and medium settings but I'm sure I'd get 45+ with the Nvidia. Just thought maybe someone else had run into it with a solution. I've only found one other person that posted about this issue where it was fine before they installed SP2+acceleration and not good after but it doesn't look like they found a solution either.
July 22, 201213 yr It sounds like you have it properly working. 37FPS isn't too shabby. In any case I found another link on disabling the Integrated 4000HD. It looks like the person had the same problem as you are describing - http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Display-and-Video/how-do-I-disable-Intel-HD4000-graphics/td-p/1585453. There should be something in the Nvidia Control Panel that states you should always use the Nvidia 630M when playing FSX. Look in Nvidia Control Panel and click on the Program Setting tab. Pull up the game FSX and look for the option there in the settings for the game. Jim is gonna become a new Opa A swiss-knife for troubleshooting! Thanks Srdan! That's a true compliment comparing me to Opa. I'll never get as good as he was though! Best regards, Jim
July 22, 201213 yr Author That was tried but no luck either. So I went on the search for drivers. Toshiba has nothing yet for my laptop(it's a very new laptop). NVidia has no updates for my video card under the certified released drivers so I went into the beta drivers and tried one that fit my laptop's Nvidia chip and it has fixed the problem. I'm hoping for good but who knows. I'm going to keep an eye on it that's for sure. I was about to bring the laptop back under the 14 day return policy and get a desktop but I may not now. By the way, under the same conditions I went from about 36 to 38 fps at O-Hare to 48fps even hitting 50 at times.
July 23, 201213 yr That will teach you for buying the latest tech! I'm interested in knowing whether it was located in the Nvidia Control Panel or did you have to right click FSX like you said earlier. I have a feeling we're going to see more posts like this from others who got the latest and greatest. Seems to me the technology should be plug and play or provide better guidance. Good to see it's providing additional fps at KORD. Now you need to get that KORD payware from FS DreamTeam! Best regards, Jim
July 23, 201213 yr Author It just started working like it's suppose to and switch once I've put the settings to do that in the NVidia control panel. It just didn't work with the old drivers. I'm kind of thinking of going back and returning it though after running into this issue. If it's giving me this buggy issue now, will it happen again is my thought process. Also what else might it act up on in the future. I might return it and get a desktop with the 630 graphics card. The card isn't quite as powerful as the 630M according to the ratings but it can always be upgraded for next to nothing. And the computer i'm looking at has a bigger i7 at 3.4ghz versus 2.3ghz on mine. And 16gb versus 8gb. See the two and let me know what you think? July 23, 201213 yr FSX + Desktop is, in my opinion, the way to go. Of course, it's a little hard to carry around, if that is your need for a computer. I limit my programs installed on my FSX machine to flight simulators and any associated equipment such as joystick, yoke, pedals, and TIR5. Seems to lower the risk of conflicts. John Wingold
July 23, 201213 yr Author FSX + Desktop is, in my opinion, the way to go. Of course, it's a little hard to carry around, if that is your need for a computer. I limit my programs installed on my FSX machine to flight simulators and any associated equipment such as joystick, yoke, pedals, and TIR5. Seems to lower the risk of conflicts. It has to be my do all computer unfortunately. I do have my old laptop which is why I haven't played FS in 2 years. I tried to play for a year with it but it was pretty bad on there. The laptop seemed to be going on the bum with some of my photos dissappearing but now I'm starting to think the photos were dissappearing because of the software I used being buggy and not the hard drive going because no other issues have risen. So my laptop could still be used on the go but the desktop would be for video editing/photo editing and flight sim/trainz mostly. Thinking I might want to go for the desktop after all and try to hope that my laptop which is now 3 years old will continue to work for another year or two.
July 23, 201213 yr Device Manager? Not an expert by any means, but there must be a way to disable the integrated four and use the 630m. My laptop has a 560m, and runs FSX great. Sorry, missed earlier replies. Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk 2
October 24, 201213 yr Try and disable "preview DirectX 10" on the FSX settings menu. Me and my friend had the same problem and we disabled the option and it reverted back to his Nvidia GT540 card.
