This is one of those moments where I'm pretty convinced *you* have no clue what you are talking about, because I have no clue what you are talking about. The resolution of textures being used on this airplane is massive... as it was with the NGX... And there is no such thing as "ultra HD." Something is either HD or standard resolution- and neither of those terms has an actual ANSI standard when applied to the FS community as it does to say, TV, movies and digital media...

Words to describe the quality of work are always relative. Terms like 'HD', 'UHD' are all non-official terms to express something, regarding the quality (numbers of pixels). As far as I know describing quality of textures has with 'HD' or 'UHD' started by a company, this got copied by a lot of people and a lot of people also use it without knowing the meaning.

There is no official meaning of this as different people use UHD and HD with their own meaning attached to these terms.

Some people consider mapping on a 4096 texture sheet to be High Definition. In my opinion this is not the way to look at it, because one can map a Cessna 172 on a 4096 map, but mapping a Boeing 777 on a single 4096 sheet is also possible. It is obvious that the Cessna 172 will be more detailed.

So to look at the texture quality I think it is fair to look a the pixel per meter ratio, which simply is the number of pixels per meter length of the plane.

As far as I know HD means a px/m-ratio of 100 or more and UHD means a px/m-ratio of 200 or more. I honestly don't know what other people consider to be HD or HDT, but this is how I know it.

About the PMDG textures being stuck in the 1990s, well I can't even take that seriously. I am a user since FS98

This is how FS98 looks like:

The difference between FS9 and FSX already was a leap forwards (max texture size to 4096, specs, bumps). For your information the NGX had a px/m-ratio of 327 which is the plane with the highest ratio available at this moment (The only plane that has an higher ratio is made for X-plane). I think the PMDG 777 will be somewhere in the same region. So saying that the textures are stuck in the 90's is based on nothing, see the picture above (are you trying to insult PMDGs texture artist :fool: ).

On a second note, I don't know how familiar you are with textures, if you think that PMDG didn't do a good job on the textures: They gave you the pixels to play with, so play with them, do your magic on those textures. It strikes me that a lot of people think they can do it better, but only talk and don't take initiative to make a kit themselves. Take in mind that the textures you see started as a wireframe.

Regarding this preview: I like the detailed modelling, especially the detail on the wing. The 777 is my favourite airplane B) .

Ah FS98!

I am still shocked to see what I spent my time on back then! Love your screenshots!

Thank you PMDG for designing the best sim planes for FSX...i have in my hangar the PMDG 737-800/900, 747-400 and MD-11 and im surely a future owner for the amazing PMDG 777 (Those muscled engines make me crazy!!!!) ... those pictures are making me wondering about the sound of engines when taking off, the sound of thrust....can we book the purchase from now?

I wonder if this "new thing that hasn't been simulated before" , are the cameras?

and I imagine it might show up as an option if we do the BBJs.

IF? IF? Wow... hope you'll correct that IF to a WHEN.

I am an avid globetrotter with my trusty Lufthansa B777F, Polar Air Cargo B744F, and Atlas Air B748F.

Amazing! Good stuff! Thnx PMDG!

Can't wait for this, are you guys gonna make the 777-300ER, if I remember correctly I read a post a long time ago that you were gonna do the 300ER first and then 200LR after or am I wrong? Anyhow both of the 300ER and 200LR variants are my favourite and this plane looks epic anyhow

The 300ER is the first expansion :-)

Could it be an EFB that's not a glorified PDF reader, but rather collects data from FS itself?

Sweet, didn't know you were on Avsim forums too, I have you subbed on YT :). Anyways, can't wait for this, thanks for sharing the previews PMDG!

Wow  can't wait, great job on the out side. love to see the flight deck.

Thanks again PMDG and great job as always! I recently bought the CD package MD-11x from Aerosoft online since I couldn't find it in Fry's. Amazing simulation.

A question about the interior cabin. Does your new simulation framework include support for the passenger cabin? Recalling some of the fun memories of the old FS9 NG and the touchables in the FS9/FSX 747. And the Flight1 ATR72 had the doors that could be opened from the inside as well as a button flushable toilet :) (sound only). FS2Crew NGX has the announcement after docking "disarm slides". Would be nice to see the slide lever disarmed if only for the main door...

Or if one day PMDG planes had the air slides that popped out on an emergency landing, land or water, haha.
