New Optional Comm Frequency f4.csv Scenery Extraction for Airports

http://forum.avsim.net/topic/292881-vtbs-2010-and-jakarta-airport/ discusses the freeware and newer one payware at simmarket.

Freeware I think you need this ILS added approach file set and the scenery itself (2004 version) here in the AVSIM scenery library:

Added approach layers with ILS:

Filename: vtbsapp.zip License: Freeware Added: 21st January 2009

2004 Scenery by Jan MArtin:

Filename: jtacof_8.zip License: Freeware Added: 15th June 2004

however the site with the required afcads mentioned in the readme is no longer available.

Here's the payware link on simmarket with the newer version:

http://secure.simmarket.com/armi-tic-vtbs-project-2010.phtml

or at the FSPilotShop via flightsim.com:

http://www.fspilotshop.com/product_info.php?products_id=2626 $23USD

I didn't see it in the AVSIM store.

In your RC main folder(s) please make a safe copy of rcv3.dat. I called mine safe-rcv3dat.

Version 4.612 has been "stress tested" by me and it works just fine. It is now up in the FSUIPC support forum under the useful addition programs section.

http://forum.simflig...ional-programs/

In several random order sequenced using controlled (towered) and uncontrolled( non-towered) airports alternating them as departure and destination airports none of the aforementioned problems occurred.

The problem with the comma in the airport name (as extracted from the airport scenery data) as Pete discovered actually created an extra field throwing the field order off when RC read the file and caused unpredictable behavior. In a .csv file the comma is the field separator and is not to be part of the field entry. Pete has replaced the comma with a hyphen or dash character which is acceptable. The fixed data f4.csv file supplied with RC did not have this problem.

Departure and Ground frequencies are no longer reversed.

Regarding Unicom RC is actually reading Multicom so you'll see Unicom reading at uncontrolled airports only where the Multicom attribute has been assigned. This is not a feature used in RC4 for pilot position reporting on entering and throughout the airport traffic pattern. In this version CTAF for the same purpose is not used.

Follow the procedure in the first post to get things going initially and then for the rest of the uses do the f4.csv copy after doing a scenery rebuild from within RC.

Thanks again to Pete Dowson for being persistent and sleuthing this out.

f4.csv has the correct (which I modified) tower freq of 132.4 for KANE. On starting up RCV4, this is correctly shown in the Controller Info tab. However, on contacting Approach, I was given 126.05 (the old, original FSX freq). Is Approach using a different database or what? Any way to get Approach to use the new tower freq?

thanks!

Approach there uses Minneapolis Approach, not tower there. Tower is only used on final.

In the FS9 default database I get this:

Airport, Type, Name, Freq, Comments

KANE,APPROACH,MINNEAPOLIS,126.500,

KANE,ATIS,KANE,120.625,

KANE,AWOS,,120.625,

KANE,CLEARANCE,ANOKA CO-BLAINE,121.300,

KANE,CLEARANCE,MINNEAPOLIS,121.850,

KANE,DEPARTURE,MINNEAPOLIS,126.500,

KANE,GROUND,ANOKA CO-BLAINE,121.850,

KANE,TOWER,ANOKA CO-BLAINE,126.050,

KANE,CTAF,ANOKA CO-BLAINE,126.050,

KANE,UNICOM,ANOKA CO-BLAINE,123.050,

note that approach uses 126.50 and the tower is 126.05, easy to confuse. Later tonight I can check out the line for you to modify or you can choose to modify the comms with ADE or another FSX compatible editor and have makerwys extract the f4.csv data line for you.

Are you using the default scenery?

I'll create in in my fs9 afcad file modified for the following and have it set up for you.

I already used Airport Design Editor to change the tower freq to 132.4, saved this in the Addon Scenery file, started FSX (which rebuilt scenery), quit FSX, ran makerwys, then copied f4.csv from the FSX folder to the RC4X data folder. As I said, I then ran RC and loaded the flight plan (KANE to KSTP) and the Controller Info tab had 132.4 as the tower freq at the start of the flight. But I was told by Approach "contact tower on 126.05." I looked at Controller Info tab at that point and it had 126.05 for tower (grayed out). Why did it change from 132.4 at the start of the flight? RC is accessing FSX via WideFS. The f4.csv file is on the RC system, not the FSX system.

KANE,Anoka Co-Blaine,120.62,121.30,121.85,132.40,122.95,132.40,126.50,126.50

is the f4,csv file after I used ADE to update comms from a current DP, IAP, and airport diagram from flightaware.com's chart resources (FAA).

Are you using makerwys version 4.612? There was a bug in previous versions.

http://forum.simflight.com/topic/66136-useful-additional-programs/

At what point did you bring up the controller screen? Was RC started and your flight enroute when you did that?

BTW, Unicom always shows zero. It is not supported in RC4.

Yes, I am using makerwys 4.612. I brought up the controller screen when the flight started. At that time, the tower frequence was 132.40. Unicom is not an issue. I re-tested, and if I bring up the .rcd in RC4 that I saved when I was directed by Approach to contact tower on 126.05, the tower frequency is grayed out and is 126.05.

Please verify that as I understand it you were flying from KANE to KSTP. In that case if you were handed to approach it would use the KSTP data for contacting KSTP tower. From the default KSTP in FS9 this is the data I have:

KSTP,St Paul Downtown-Holman,118.35,121.70,121.67,119.10,122.95,119.10,121.20,121.20

which may not be current. What do you have?

Here are the current frequencies;

I don't have time to edit and test the next couple of days.

Now KSTP is further down in the f4.csv file. During debugging this new facility and properly formatted record with an extra or missing field could ship airport frequency data. That probably has not happened.

I tested KANE to KRGB and all went well after version 4.612. What was incorrect in previous versions is in Pete Dowson's reply preceding.

Another issue is that the complete route is probably about 20 nm or so complete, very short, and I'm not sure RC can handle that. There is quite an overlap of radar approach. Try editing KSTP to current comms in ADE for one thing and rebuild f4.csv.

Try a Duluth KDLH to KSTP and KDLH to KANE if you have a chance. Then try another near airport but a little more distance say 60 nm or so where there is at least one waypoint on the way. Your current route is direct, right?

Finally, did KANE to KSTP work before you replaced or edited f4.csv? If not, then we might have a bug in RC itself.

No. It was KSTP to KANE.

ok. KDLH to KANE works, gives the right frequency. KSTP to KANE still does not. Maybe it is the short distance.

Finally, did KANE to KSTP work before you replaced or edited f4.csv? If not, then we might have a bug in RC itself

As I said, it was never KANE to KSTP, but the reverse. It had 126.05 in tower frequency at start of the flight in the Controllers panel.

For your last test of KSTP to KANE, you had mentioned using an .rcd earlier but this time did you not use it? If you had saved an .rcd before you changed the frequencies the old ones might have been pulled from the .rcd or a saved .flt file prior to the changes. Otherwise I do not see how a frequency no longer in f4.csv could get in there. It was never at KSTP nor used in any of the relative approaches.

Saving an .rcd also saves the .flt and .wxr files.

BTW: I did lots of GA real world flights in and out of KANE in the early 70's. FBO was Fist Aircraft located near where Cirrus is. I occasionally check it out from the ground (I can no longer pilot aircraft) and they have made the 9/27 improvements. I used to practice VOR approaches to 9 over the water tower at Blaine city hall on highway 65 using GEP. I modified the default with the added ILS, runway 9/27 extension, and taxiways to match.

Watch out for the Shoreview antenna farm. The towers gained about a 100 feet when digital TV started. (I used to work for KARE-11 as a tech.)

Not sure. I just re-tested live and the correct frequency is there.

I added the ILS also but have not bothered with visual elements yet. I am flying a Cessna 162 Skycatcher in the real world out of KSTP. I did a lot of flying out of KANE when I belonged to a flying club there.

How well I know! A couple of years ago I was in IMC flying from KSTP to KANE at 3500 when I started getting ice (172). I asked ATC for a lower altitude but got an "unable" because of the Shoreview antennas. I had to stay in the clouds until I could get a VOR 9 approach. Not fun!
