Currently in the vicinity of the SLIDR fix descending on the EAGUL5 STAR into KPHX on an actual 737-700. (SWA1258 from KDTW-KPHX) We're equipped with wifi and in-flight internet, which I still think is the coolest thing ever hehe. Flightaware says we're a -300 for some reason but that's wrong, I'm looking at the wing right now and we're definitely a 700.

Very easy to tell the difference from the wing. Also, I believe Southwest painted the -700's flap track fairings red, whereas they're grey on the -300/-500. Plus there's a number of obvious structural differences in the wing.

I've noticed Flightaware lists all active and past Southwest flights as flown by -300's. It must be an error on their end.

Last year I went on a Qantas -800 which was claimed to be a -400... (I knew better!)

Cmon guys, I know the difference between an NG and a classic lol... N790SW was my aircraft - a verified -700 on the FAA's site. Also, look at the altitude plot - we were at FL400 up from our filed FL380 trying to get out of the continuous light chop we were in for most of the flight. Classics are limited to FL370, so there's no way we were at either 380 or 400 in a -300.

I had the luck to be on one of Europa's first wifi planes. I also immediately checked http://www.flightradar24.com/ (Europe's version of flightaware) and had great fun seeing all other traffic and knowing where to look for them. I am searching for a radio receiver so I can listen to ATC during flights too :D

Flightaware is actually really seriously delayed - I estimate the position shown was about 150nm from where we really were. When we made the turn south on the arrival, FA still showed us as abeam Albuquerque, which wasn't right at all, we'd passed over it quite a while back.

Haha :P, FR24 is very accurate. From my window to the screen, it's about a 1 minute delay.
