Possible Fix For FSX "Not Responding"

Recommended Posts

After weeks of research and trying all the fix's I may of found the cause of my FSX locking up. I used Norton Internet Security to monitor my memory usage while flying and that over time I found that Windows Media Player was using more and more memory until my 4G's were full and then it would lockup. I did a search for the Media Player file wmpnetwk.exe and found out how to disable the program which I do not use on my Sim computer. I have now flown many hours without a lockup on my Windows 7 system.

Wait you're saying that Windows 7 runs Media Player in the background even if you don't actually open the program?

I thought this topic was about FSX crashing on exit actually....I never have a lockup when I run the program.

Yes on my system. I believe at some time in the past I assigned Media Player is my player. That I believe is when the lockup problem started. For some reason Media Player usage of memory keeps growing. It started with less than FSX which runs around

1.3-1.5 KB. As I flew MP started with 1.2KB and went up to 2.6 kb and then if would freez with a light screen but the sound would still be on. I would close FSX but did not have to reboot to fly again.

get IO bit Game booster, it will shut down all the stuff not needed for gaming, and you can make modifications.

wmpnetwk is the Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service, it's job is to act as a media server for your network. 99% of people don't use it, disabling it is the correct course of action.
