Scenery Textures 'blurred' below 3000ft?

Recommended Posts

I've only really noticed this as I've been flying VFR this week. I like Air Hauler :P

One thing I have noticed that has I climb out the scenery textures seemed slightly blurred and once above 3000ft approx they get 'very' crisp and clear and stay that way. then as I start the descent they get blurred again and on final all is OK

I've never noticed this before when flying 737 etc as I didn't have time to look out of the window on the climb out

Is there any 'tweak' that could help out

Thanks

Clive Joy

I'm assuming you will receive a ton of answers on that issue. The possible causes are just too many. Perhaps post some screenshot to allow a closer look. It helps helping.

Where are you flying when that happens? For example, is it happening when flying over Orbx scenery or just some default stuff or photo textures. Is the autogen coming up or is it delayed too? What's your graphic hardware and settings on antialiasing and anisotropic filtering?

Here is the first answer :)

Lower your frame rate lock.

If your average frames are going below your lock, then it's too high. Your frames shouldn't drop below the locked figure except occasionally.

If you're unlocked, the you'll get blurries usually.

The first two shots look normal... issues in the next three, and the last one is normal...

Are your fps locked?

If the textures aren't "catching up" then there is some driver problem most likely... Otherwise it could be your AF settings... what is it at?

I have the frames locked via Nvidia Inspector

Settings are as per Tabs post in the PMDG forum

I'm using the 8xS settings

Anisotropic filtering mode: User-defined/Off

Anisotropic filtering setting: 16x

to start with - set the FPS in FSX not Inspector. See if that helps. then try reducing your settings a little.

I know of many that would kill to get that good of quality of textures. Perhaps lowing or experimenting with Nvidia AA settings may give a "crisper" image but at the expense of poor AA, jagged edges and shimmering. One may try raising the Fiber_Frame_Time _Fraction= to a higher number but that can effect performance also.

The only changes I've made is to set the FPS in FSX and not inspector.

Maybe it's the size of the pictures, but all of those in the last post look fine to me....

Yep,

The other change I've made is Fiber_Frame_Time _Fraction=0.33.

Mine was set to 0.1 for some strange reason.

So there we have it, two very small changes and I must admit the graphics are now the best they have been.

So, hopefully this could help others out.

That was very painless.

Thanks everyone

Good deal. if you want some better looking grass textures. Check out REX's free download section.

Couple shots from P3D. They do something a little difference with noticably improved clarity. Not trying to sell anything here!
