Hi All,

I just recently upgraded my video card from an ATI 5770 to a GTX570 HD with 2.5GB. Once I setup Inspector I found the image quality improved quite dramatically. The VC in the NGX and other planes looked much better and panning around was smoother. However, performance with frame rates was about the same perhaps slightly lower. I am having an issue and hoping someone can help before I attempt an exchange.

When I fly at airports with addon scenery, (mostly larger ones) if I pan (look) away from the airport for a short time, (10 seconds or so) then look back, the airport ground textures are gone. All I see is grey squares. Then I see them start coming back little by little and it usually takes 4 or 5 seconds or more before the airport is fully drawn. But at the same time, I will lose ground textures surrounding the airport, big squares of black with only trees/houses visible. Eventually, it all comes back. This used to happen with my old card but not the black squares, and the airport was redrawn much faster (maybe 2 seconds).

Any idea if I can fix this? The rest of my PC specs are in my profile.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Should also mention that I've done all the FSX.CFG tweaks. No changes at all.

Do you lock your FPS?

yes, at 30

If you increase image quality you generally are going to lose performance. If you want more performance you're probably going to have to scale back the settings a bit.

I haven't increased anything. The image quality was better because of the card (better aliasing, better v-sync, not because I turned anything up. All my FSX settings are set to what they were before the upgrade. However, to test, I did turn down everything in FSX. All sliders full left, 0 autogen, 0 everything, and still the same problem. Frame rates didn't leave 30, but ground textures wouldn't load as described above.

Did you use Nvidia Inspector after you swapped to the 570?

The other possibility is that you are CPU limited and the GPU upgrade is only going to give you more performance during GPU-limited scenarios, such as flying through heavy clouds.

I don't see an option to lock FPS in Inspector.

Thanks for the feedback, and the link, it was very helpful. I'm pretty sure it's not my video card. I'll live with it for now as it only happens in the most extreme situations with heavy scenery and I don't typically encounter the problem on most of my flights.

Something to try,

When changing video card, it's worth it to rename/backup and delete your FSX .cfg and start with a clean fresh one, no tweaks yet.

Try setting frames to unlimited in FSX, sometimes works better in really heavy urban areas.

See how it goes, then apply any tweaks one at a time and test,
