What are we gaining by moving from Flight to FSX?

Featured Replies

That's not ELITE the old space game of old is it?

Nope :-) It's : www.flyelite.com

Try this DEMO if you find the time. Easy install.... PM me if you need help getting it running... Ah! Forget about nice looking scenery/weather and ground handling in ELITE ;-)

What a shame you couldn't get the hardware recognized :-( I hope you get it sorted out. Email Austin, he will certainly reply: [email protected]

I never had any problems even when I had my Saitek yoke, TQ, and CH pedals, but that was in v9.... Presently I just have a Saitek x52 Pro, but look fwd to get a good/affordable pair of rudder pedals :-)

And to keep in line with this thread so far not gained anything and lost 20min. Flying my fav apple :)

Well, I didn't loose anything because FLIGHT will be here for as long as I can make it work, and I start it everyday, even if only to get the AOTD :-), and I keep dreaming of some day someone at Microsoft deciding to get back and change the course of history :-)

Yeh it's a pain that nothing except the pedals were recognised but Im sure that I'll get it sorted in time and thanks for the link too :)

Sorry, I meant that I'd lost 20min getting a Flight fix lol

Happy flying

Ah! BTW: That permaculture farm has a name - "X-Plane" - Bite one of those if you're in the mood to, but take time to appreciate it's taste ;-)

You're right about that ! That's possibly the most difficult part of changing over to the permaculture apples....

When he saw how extraordinairy dissapointed i was when he told me that the 'Flight' apple line was discontinued the greengrocer put a nice looking apple in my hand and said " Here you go, try that. If you like it you can buy a whole box".

Well, i tried it but the first bite put me off right away. I found the skin way too tough and the taste of the flesh too sweet and woolly. I did sense though that if this particular apple would get more cultivation and care over time it could well become a favourite.

But fot the moment i'll stick with my box of apples in the cellar. ( i have another box of apples next to that, it's much older but it's remarkable how well these apples still taste )

Jan

Sorry, I just can't do it. I have tasted all the other apples before and just am pulled back to that one really tasty apple that I keep in the frig. I take another bit out of it every day. I think it must be a magic apple because it never seems to disappear. It is still there every day when I open the frig and just tastes better every day.

I can't wait until tomorrow!

Ah, yes ! Maybe i should've done that too but when i bought this apple i didn't know yet that the distribution of it would be discontinued, didn't i, so i couldn't help eating this apple all at once, including the core, that's how much i loved it !

So i just live with the memory of the sublime taste of this one extraordinairy apple and when i get hungry i'll grab one out of the box in the cellar. I'm sure you can go on taking tiny bites from your one precious apple in the fridge for some time to come but one day you'll be left with just the core. When that happens i can advice you to try another apple from the box in your cellar. Really not that bad and i'm sure you will love the variety and the knowledge that there's plenty more where that comes from.

In the mean time enjoy the wonderful taste of your one precious apple in the fridge. Envy you ! B)

And while I'm at it, I'd like to extend my personal thanks to all those third party developers whose products WILL NOT WORK with SP1, so we're stuck with the crappy lighting of SP2. Come to think of it, my FSX crashes did not start until I installed SP2, after at least a year of flying with SP1. Thanks again, guys.
Thank Microsoft for messing up the lightning. In my opinion lightning is fine if you use ENB Series for FSX.

It's certainly better with the ENB series but still not a patch on Flight's lighting, which was an absolute joy to behold.

I've been back to FSX for a while, enjoying some of the sceneries I missed while on Flight. But it's just not the same.

Sooooo much potential in Flight. It's just heartbreaking to think that that code is sitting in a basement, unused. Sure there might be an increase in legal admin, but surely it must be worth their while to sell it.

Hi,

I'd say that this video is closer to what one might see in Flight as opposed to FSX. Except for the crash, of course.

By the way, in the slow motion of the crash is the pilot briefly seen holding an IPad?

Hmm, one thing everyone who moves from Flight to FSX is freedom from Windows Live. I have serious problems with all my games that use Windows Live... I have somehow managed to create multiple Windows Live profiles under same name and email so I never know which one is right for certain game, sometimes Windows Live messes up my save games and/or prevents me from backing them up... Thankfully for some older games there are tools that allow disabling it, but newer ones completely built around Windows Live are hopeless.

If I had to remove single thing from whole gaming wold it would be either Call of Duty or Games for Windows Live.

I get the chance to spend alotta money on Scenery, planes, airports to whine and complain about how crappy it runs and how often it crashes. To quote Charlie Sheen.... WINNING!!!

You can get *real* ATC (and real multiplayer experience), both using the built-in multiplayer feature (if someone "plays" ATC), or joining networks like VATSIM or IVAO.

Multiengine aircrafts, which were absent in Flight, and require some more skills.

What I also like is diversity - there are so many different type of planes that even flying a landing pattern in a busy airport needs good skill because there might be very slow and very fast planes around you. I really felt the "experience of flight" when I started to fly in busy scenarios - it's not only keeping the plane straight, is being able to handle it completely - keeping the correct altitude, speed, heading and so on, sometimes with very little margin of error.

And last but not least, carrier operations! :P

That's why we have autopilots.

Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;

Well, I really didn't move from FLIGHT - play it everyday!!! :-) Yet, on moving / searching for an alternative, I made a short divert back into FSX Gold (three weeks) and it was more than sufficient to finally settle for X-Plane10... For me, FLIGHT is the "GA Sim of my life", X-Plane10 is the simulation platform to go with for everything else. I am very satisfied I "just" spent €29 in FSX Gold and resisted starting to buy this and that add-ons... I would now be a lot more irritated than I am anyway for having lost some precious time and a few bucks with it... Nonetheless, I was finally able to get it running smoothly on my system, at a solid 24 fps thx to Word Not Allowed's excellent tweaks and that "Venetubo" site..., with settings I had never in my life been able to use in a PC. I believe I finally saw what FSX is supposed to be...

And just to think I was about to try Prear3d... Duh! (maybe v2.0, who knows....)

My only problem is when I start "flying" even the most sophisticated add-ons (and yes I do have 2 RealAirs for FSX...), the weather effects, etc... For IFR / IMC flying, systems and performance accuracy I have ELITE, for feeling closer to flying a small aircraft than any sim I have FLIGHT, and X-Plane10 too in some sense, for the rest, mostly GA but also turboprops, possibly the big iron (not really interested on those...), gliders and helicopters, there is, IMHO, nothing like X-Plane :-)

Ah! BTW: FlightGear2.8 is very nice too - and free!!!!!

Weren't Flight people who complained FSX ones always fly on autopilot? And no, not every plane as an autopilot, and autopilot can break and you'll have to learn to fly without...
