AI traffic plugin !

Recommended Posts

Just in case you guys missed this- http://xsimreviews.com/2012/08/10/alertworld-traffic-plugin-for-x-plane/#more-20238

“Fill the X-Plane skies and airports with hundreds of planes. See www.classicjetsims.com for future updates. World Traffic lets you create simple flight plans for single aircraft flights or for multiple aircraft formation flights. Ground route files can be created to guide aircraft to or from parking spots. A flight plan consists of a start time (can also be immediate or random), aircraft type/s, departure/arrival airports, waypoints, and arrival type. A flight plan may be as simple as having only a departure and arrival airport. The plugin will create a flight based on aircraft profiles which include several aircraft performance parameters and dimensions, wind direction and airport information."

"Features:

- X-Plane object files are used instead of X-Plane aircraft so there is no 20 aircraft limit.

- Arrival types at an airport can be straight-in approaches, overhead breaks, or general aviation circuit pattern.

- Flights can start in the air if no departure airport is specified or end in the air if no arrival airport is specified.

- Traffic may also be ground or water traffic if altitude is set to 0 feet AGL.

- Aircraft definition file which specifies the associated objects to use, cruise speed/altitude, landing/takeoff speeds, max bank angle, thrust, weight, aircraft dimensions, etc.

- Automatic routing to airport runway based on wind speed, aircraft type, and runway length… aircraft will only land on runways which are long enough.

- For simultaneous runway operation, aircraft are routed based on what runway is not currently selected for an arriving flight or which runway has the earlier arrival time for an incoming flight.

- Circuit directions are normally counter-clockwise for military and general aviation traffic except for parallel runways where the right runway has a clockwise circuit direction.

- An optional airport file can be defined to override circuit direction and runway priority so you can make specific runways higher priority or stop aircraft from landing on other runways.

- Ground route files are defined and are associated with a specific runway for arrival or departure. They may also be associated with a general aircraft type (eg. airliner, fighter) or a specific aircraft type (eg. A-320, F-15) so you can control where aircraft taxi to or from at an airport. When an aircraft lands it will find an unused ground route file and use the steering information to taxi to its parking place. Ground route files can include runway hold waypoints so that aircraft will not taxi across a runway if it’s in use.

- Aircraft track camera so you can follow any of the active flights

- Dissimilar aircraft may be used in a formation flight as shown in the video as long as they have overlapping cruise speed/altitude ranges.

- Aircraft and vehicles follow terrain contours."

This, I think, will turn out to be THE killer app to bring people over onto x-plane. It's one of the major missing pieces in the x-plane ecosystem.

Reading out the feature set looks like everything that Ttools & Afcad could ever do for fsx, plus lots more. There''s that, plus the fact that the developer has been very receptive to reader comments over on xsimreviews.

I'm definitely keeping an eye on this. I will miss seeing a 737 trying to depart from my local GA airport, though. It'll be good for the local communities as the 737 generally runs over a dozen houses before rotation ;)

Thanks. So, where do the AI planes come from? In the package, or does it use whatever is installed in XP?

X-Plane object files. aircraft3d.com will be creating some aircraft packs for a small fee I think.
