MD11: FMA "AP OFF" in yellow box message, where is in the manual?

Recommended Posts

Hi to all, I'm studing ATS and A/P of my MD11. In the last flight I tried to switch off AP (Z shortcut) and ATS (C shortcut) during flight, and then LSAS (V shortcut) too.

Let's suppose your are flying, if A/P is ON and try to disconnect LSAS (press V) FMA gives me a RED warning message: AP OFF, that's correct!

If I push "Z" to shut off aural warning FMA become YELLOW with message: AP OFF:

If I revert ON LSAS this warning become white:

I think this behavior is correct buy my question is: where can I find in the manual the YELLOW FMA message? I can't find it anywhere, only find out RED and WHITE warning, no more.

Many thanks for your help

Riccardo

Yellow is always the same everwhere in the MD-11. It means that a system needs pilot attention but not immediate action. In this case what you are seing is that an AP mode is armed, but not activated. It all depends on the mode that the autopilot system is in at the time. An example is that there is a soft arming system which will show a yellow warning when approaching stall, then if not corrected will go from armed to engaged in order to increase thrust and drop the nose to prevent the stall with red warnings.

Thanks a lot for your help, but where can I find in MD11 documentation?

Check the systems manual around page 33. It goes over all of the colors, there are more than three that are used to indicate things. Its really well thought out if you read through it.

Also, your prompt just got me reading and page 100 states, "After this warning (AP DISCONNECT) pushing either AP disconnect witch changes the AP OFF to a steady white (amber if the disconnect was the result of a failure and no AP is available)."

Many thanks, I've red those lines, but not speak about any yellow, only amber in case of failure.

There's no yellow in the MD-11, it's all amber. So there you go.

Ah Markus, thank you a lot. Now the mystery is explained! I found it strange that there were no "yellow" anywhere. I searched all the MD11 documentation without finding anything. However it would seem more "yellow" than "amber". But the important thing is to have solved.

So I have to consider amber the first above image warning Markus?
