Who Wants a VC10 for FSX?

Using TrackIR is the 'death knell' to 2D panels.

There are strong arguments against Vc panels. For a small light a/c general aviation model they work very well and even better with trackir.

The problems arise when trying to model a large cockpit (the VC10 being a very good example). To give you an example: The AP is situated on the front of the pedestal between the pilots. It has various control knobs including one to manually change the heading. The more you turn it the more the a/c banks and increases the turn radius. When flying the real a/c all that is required is a momentary glance (if that, even!) as the AP is within one's peripheral vision. My hand is now on the correct knob and I am steering the a/c. My attention is still either outside the the cockpit in the direction of the turn or on the instruments in front of me. In a VC cockpit every time I want to vary the turn rate I have to look away from what is in front of me directly at the AP. I don't have to do that in the 2D cockpit as the AP window has popped up. So one can argue that the 2D cockpit is at least in this case closer to reality!!

If the 2D cockpit is correctly scaled both internally and with reference to the outside then in my opinion it's better. I sit directly facing the left of my screen in front of the T so my head moves left and right to scan the instruments. With trackir and a VC cockpit I would have to constantly look away and look back. Even in the case of an OH panel. In reality it's right in front of me I just have to glance up with my eyes. in a VC cockpit it's the equivalent of looking right up at the ceiling.

Not looking particularly for a VC10 but I wanted to add a word of thanks for David Maltby whose BAC 1-11 was one of my favourite aircraft in FS9 along with Rick Piper's HS 748.

I will not revisit them in FSX as expectations are higher now with today offerings but thinking of them bring good memories.

Yes, an FSX version of Rick Piper's HS748 with a super detailed VC would be another one that I would love to see.

+1

I still fly his HS748 on a regular basis. It flies beautifully (and realistically within the confines of FSX), has great sounds and looks very handsome in spot view :)
