Where to buy Navdata for RXP units?

I spoke with a rep from Garmin - there's no way to update the Garmin Trainer .... oh well.

Thanks for the information, Ryan. Seems odd. So how would a guy with the rw data be able to 'fly' the approach in another thing than the real plane? Isn't that the beauty of the sim, to get a least an impression on the routing and timing?

CoolP,

Nothing's stopping anyone from flying instrument approaches with steam gauges based on RW plates, except for the anomalies here and there where something has changed a little over the years. There may actually be a way to edit those in FSX but I'm not sure.

That said, using the RXP stuff has worked out well; at the very least, most things are still the same. You can also build your own approaches if you want, but you will find some of the canned approached may be different that what's currently published. I originally bought the N and T series gauges to get smooth performance (great!) and moved on to the 430, 530, and then unlimited to get crossfill capabilities (sharing between two units or using two of the same units simultaneously.)

Mostly, though, it's OK.

That said, RXP customer service is nonexistent, so if you happen to have any issues, don't expect support. It pains me to say that as I've enjoyed using their products, but they've left me no choice as I've pleaded for support and have not received any help from them whatsoever. I have seen responses to similar problems from "him" (I think RXP is one guy) but it has been typical "turn off virus protection, etc." and has not given me positive results. I believe this stems from the overzealous copy protection written into the RXP products. I've had it working in the morning and then I come back in the afternoon and it's dead again, and requires a re-install. FWIW Flight1 (the vendor and one of my absolute favorite companies) tried to help as much as they could. I do love those guys.

Moving forward, I am actually looking at Simavio and X-Plane but have to look into it more. I bring it up here because you can keep your nav databases current for $80 per year. I am just starting to look into them so I am not sure how much panel customization is available.

FSX is by far my favorite sim, but without any type of assurance that there will be continued support for FSX (Prepar3d stuff is available at a higher premium I believe) I have to consider the future of the sport.

I know this thread is ancient but does anyone have a current link to the 2011 navdata?  The links that have been posted already are now dead.
